Advent Means Waiting
Most of us don’t like to wait. Microwaves and texting and instant information have only made it worse. Yet, here we have a liturgical season designed to remind us how to wait. We are waiting for the baby Jesus to come again to change the world forever, and we are waiting for the resurrected Jesus to come again to set all things right again in our broken world. The season reminds us that God is on our side no matter what, even if the waiting can make it feel like God is far away or long ago.
I hope that during Advent we will each take time away from shopping and planning and cooking to spend some time with God – in the midst of the chaos to find moments of stillness and calm, where we can hear again that love has come to the world as a baby and love will come again to mend all things. Please join us for Centering Prayer or the Women’s Bible Study on Wednesday mornings or the contemplative Service of Comfort on December 10th. Come each Sunday to worship as Christmas approaches. We are waiting together and love is all around us.

Stewardship Update by Pastor Liz
We have received your pledges and are using those numbers to draft our 2020 budget. The approved, 2019 budget was a deficit budget. The pledged giving and estimated “plate” giving in 2019 fell short of the approved budgeted expenses by a little over $21,000. Funds from an appropriate restricted fund were brought in to balance the 2019 budget. The funding of a deficit is not sustainable or healthy for the long run.
Part of my work as your Interim Rector has included my commitment to having a balanced budget in 2020. We must be good stewards and plan for sustainable spending in order to be healthy and vibrant. In light of the pledges received so far we are looking at some significant decreases in expenses in order to reach that goal of a balanced budget.
We will be completing the 2020 budget in December and will share that with the whole congregation. Lynne Thomas (our Treasurer), the Vestry, and I have been putting our heads together in order to create a budget that reflects openness to changes that will keep Faith Church strong and that provides a positive outlook for the whole congregation. Stay tuned!

Brian Kennedy resigns as Sr. Warden
This note is written with heartfelt appreciation for all of the dedicated time and energy Brian has given to Faith. He was a rock to lean on during the transition from Fr. Sean leaving to finding our Interim Rector; and, he continues to be a cherished servant of the Lord. We have been blessed to have both him and Rebecca in our congregation and pray that they may find happiness in Oregon; you both will be missed!

Nomadic Shelter Collection
The Daughters of Faith will again collect items for the Nomadic Shelter as part of their service for others. Watch for the bulletin insert listing suggested items!
You may place your items in the bin in the rotunda. Several trips were made to Federated Church last year to deliver the collected items and they were amazed at our generosity.
If you have questions, please contact Charlotte Kine or Ruth Pihlaja.

Faithful Hands at Work!
SHARE food closet was flooded with sewage. Yikes! After $3000 worth of inspections by the state, one of the big problems was that the storage shelves were torn out and "HASMAT-ically" disposed of.
A Big Thank you goes out to Faith Episcopal Church for donating the funds and Dan Pinski, Andrew Goodness, James Goodness, Evan Goodness and Sandy Hanson for building new shelving!

Pasta & Peanut Butter!
SHARE is currently in need of pasta and butter. Please bring traditional sized (NOT supersized) bags of pasta and jars of peanut butter, and place them on the SHARE Cart, to help those in need.
A big thank you to those who donate to the SHARE food cart - every item is appreciated! SHARE serves approximately 10,000 people a year and we couldn't do it without your help.
Other Ways you Can Help the SHARE Food Closet
- Pray for the recipients
- Volunteer at SHARE
- Talk to your relatives, neighbors, and friends about the need for SHARE and volunteers
- Donate funds (make your check out to Faith Church and note SHARE in the memo area) SHARE donates $1625 monthly to the Food Bank to help cover their expenses and in turn, they try to fill our requests for canned goods and meat.
- Donate grocery bags & egg cartons
- Support our Mission Team who has helped SHARE by purchasing a commercial refrigerator, helping to fund a commercial freezer, furnished and built shelves and tables , plus donated funds.
A big THANK YOU to exisitng Faith Church Volunteers:
Alexandra Koroscil & daughters, Barry Hopkins, Becky Hudak, Becky Kennedy, Cass Bisbikis, Charlotte Kine, Dick Fairty, Jean Hart, Gayle Holt, Ruth Pihlaja, Jill Lasko and to the numerous members who have served as volunteers in the past, and the many who have donated food and cash to help the less unfortunate in El Dorado County.

Giving Through Stock Transfers & Required IRA Distributions
Several people recently have asked us if we accept stock transfers as fulfillment of annual operating budget pledges and capital campaign pledges. YES - we have an account set up to receive stock transfers. For more information, contact Lynne Thomas using information in the directory.
We’ve also learned that a lot of people weren’t aware that you can fulfill your charitable pledges through
required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your IRA. If you’re 70 ½ and older, you can make a contribution to Faith Episcopal directly from your traditional IRA by instructing the plan administrator to make the transfer directly to Faith Episcopal as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Your gift will go directly to Faith Episcopal; it will not be reported as taxable income, and it will count toward your RMD requirements for 2019 or 2020 in the future. Please check with your financial adviser for specific advice and guidance.
* For more information, contact Lynne Thomas using information in the directory.

Knitting for Newborns!
When I started this group, 5 years ago, I was prepared to teach the ladies how to knit or crochet or both. I thought they would like to learn to knit sweaters, socks, etc. Not these ladies, they wanted to make things and give them away.
No problem.
Our first year we donated 18 lap robes to the VA hospital at Mather, then the next year Rev. Andrea asked if we could make baby afghans to donate to the service men who would be returning home to a new baby. No problem there either. Along with the quilting group we sent about 16-20 afghans and quilted blankets. In turn, we received pictures of the men holding their afghan/blanket.
Then the next 2 years we joined the UC Davis Children’s Miracle Network and donated dozen upon dozens of baby afghans and baby hats along with prayer shawls and children’s hats as well.
So, what’s next you ask? We have joined the March of Dimes NICU Group. They are women who want to take care of the very premature babies and their parents. The parents haven’t had time to prepare, like cribs clothes, diapers or whatever a newborn would need. The next group’s Baby Shower in on the 21st of December and they’ve asked us to provide at least 32 afghans as well as baby hats. Of course, if you’d like to help, there is a web site (duh)
www.amazon.com/babyreg/marchofdimes-sacramento-december-2019sacramento
. There is a list of items that you can choose from, any help will be greatly appreciated. We are only 6 ladies, but we are strong and we can do this, with God’s help, of course.

You Don’t Have to Go Through it Alone.
Over the past 10 years, the DivorceCare support group at Faith has supported over 75 people who have discovered help, found hope, and experienced healing. We are starting another series on September 12. It will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Room D. If you have questions, please contact one of the continuing facilitators: Carolyn Flood, Mark Pinski, or Kim Dillon.
What is DivorceCare? It is not therapy or counseling. Rather, it is a friendly, caring group of people who will work alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is specifically designed for those who are separated, going through a divorce, or have been divorced and having challenges recovering from it. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.
The 13-week seminar is based on the bible and Christ-centered, but you don’t need to be a Christian to attend. Each session shows a 30-minute DVD video followed by small group discussion about the video. The format is set up so anyone can join at any time during the 13 weeks. The DivorceCare DVDs present experts, ministers, and Christian counselors discussing divorce-related issues such as depression, anger, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Real people share their stories of how they deal with the pain and heartbreak of divorce and separation. During the week between meetings, group members have a resource workbook containing daily Bible study and practical exercises to help them heal from their hurt and pain.

Picture to the Left: Heating & Air Work Done
You may have wondered why the office was closed a couple of days last month; perhaps not, as it was during the power outage days. In any case, the church went under heating and air maintenance that should keep us feeling nice when it is not so nice outside. Maintenance is complete.

Prayer for Transition
"God of all time and seasons, we give thanks for what you have done in our midst, and we listen together for what you are calling us to be and do. Help us to learn from the past and then release it. Fill us with hope, confidence, and vision for the future you are creating. Give wisdom and courage to our leaders, especially our interim rector Pastor Liz Armstrong, and the one who will become our new rector. We ask all this in the name of Jesus, who by your Spirit and through your Church, walks with us and bids us to lives of love and service. Amen."
