LETTER FROM THE CEO
Welcome to Fall! We are clearly in a time of political uncertainty with the upcoming election on October 24th, but the PFLA Board and staff are working hard behind the scenes to advance private forest land owners advocacy issues and education offerings.
I'm very happy to report that as we continue to work towards a revised and fair methodology for Class 7 Managed Forest lands, BC Assessment has responded to our advocacy with a decision at their September 16th BCA Board meeting to freeze the 2021 roll rate Class 7 bare land rates and trend the cut timber rates. After the interregnum period we will continue our monthly meetings to bring resolution to this assessment file and discuss tax policy as a next step.
Response to the PFLA Webinar Series has been very strong and we look forward to welcoming you to our next webinar training session on the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulations (see details below).
We are planning several other webinar topics based on your input. Look
for our annual survey coming out later this month.
As always, please feel free to contact us at any time. We are always
receptive to feedback and input from our diverse membership!
Best wishes for a healthy Fall.
Megan Hanacek, PFLA CEO

COFI REPORT: DEEP ROOTS. STRONG COMMUNITIES A Regional Supply Chain Study
A recent addition to the PWC report commissioned by the PFLA, showing over $1 billion in annual economic activity and 4750 employment positions from private forest land activities, the BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI) has commissioned a report to compile forest activity benefits from crown lands.
The report assesses the economic and social benefits flowing from the supply chain of 19 COFI member companies representing the majority of lumber, pulp and paper, and manufactured wood producers from across the province.
The study found that, in 2019, COFI member companies purchased $7 billion worth of goods and services from nearly 9,900 B.C.-based suppliers located in every region of B.C. In total, the supply chain includes more than 340 communities and 120 Indigenous Nations and organizations.
Importantly, the study confirmed that people in communities both urban and rural, and of all sizes, benefited economically from the forest industry supply chain.

PROVINCIAL GENERAL ELECTION, 2020
A Provincial General Election has been called for Saturday October 24, 2020 and Elections BC is offering three ways to safely exercise your right to vote:
Ways to Vote
- Vote in person: You may vote in person on General Voting Day on Saturday, October 24, in advance from Thursday, October 15 to Wednesday, October 21, or at a district electoral office from now until 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. Additional advance voting opportunities have been added to reduce the number of voters in voting places. Find out more about Where to Vote.
- Vote by mail: All voters can vote by mail: you don't need a special reason. Voting by mail is a great option for voters who are not comfortable voting in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Contact Elections BC to request a vote-by-mail package as soon as possible. Your package will be mailed to you. You can ask for one by:
