October in Truro...
September 23rd was the autumnal equinox, when the sun crossed the equator and night and day were the same length - 12 hours - all over the world. This month, days will continue to shorten almost 3 minutes each day.
Shorter days will drop the average high temperature to 61, with average lows of 46. We get about 6 days of rain with an average total of 3 inches. Expect our first frost.
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Commission on Disabilities
The Truro Commission on Disabilities is continuing to work with town staff and the Friends of Truro Recreation to make Puma Park multigenerational and accessible to all. Our Puma Park Refresh Weekend was a huge success, with over 100 people volunteering their time and energy. The accessible "Pour In Place" surfacing will be installed on October 3rd now that the site is prepared. In future months, we will explore the kinds of outdoor exercise equipment available for adults then move forward to add those choices to the playground. If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear from you. As always, members of the public are invited to our meetings, which are held on the second Friday of each month at 3pm at the COA.
Truro Historical Society
As of September 30th, The Highland House Museum has closed for 2019 after a very successful season. Our exhibitions, lectures, and events under the careful planning and scheduling of Lauren Kaufmann, Director, were very well received. The museum has never looked better thanks to the restoration efforts funded by the Truro Community Preservation Act and the Massachusetts Cultural Council under the supervision of our Clerk of the Works, Jim Summers.
The Cobb Archive will continue to be open year 'round, with scheduled visiting hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to noon and on Wednesdays from 1-3:30pm. Our Truro Elders Listening Corner (funded by the Truro Cultural Council) will be available at the Cobb all winter long. Please stop by to listen to the remembrances of Truro elders and to see all the books, maps, photographs, and documents stored in the climate-controlled historic building that once served as Truro's first public library. Look for more Fall/Winter events soon, including an open house, October 23rd!
