Foundations in Education hosted two events for informal conversation around Catholic education, innovation and leadership in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Friends of Foundations met with Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano and Superintendent Dr. Steven Cheeseman on October 6th at the home of Paula and Tom McInerney in Westport, CT and on November 17th at the home of Elise and Glenn Major in Weston, CT.
Dr. Cheeseman spoke to the mission of the twenty-five Diocesan Catholic schools that are supported by Foundations in Education through tuition assistance and/or teacher grants. “Our greatest differentiator as Catholic schools from public schools is the idea that each child is made in the likeness of Christ. How do we acknowledge their gifts and their talents and how do we challenge them to explore those gifts and become the best they can be?”
Bishop Caggiano spoke of the transformational impact philanthropy plays in the lives of our students. “Our Catholic schools offer a superior academic education, form our children with critically important values and most especially, offer them a unique opportunity to be transformed in faith,” he shared.
Foundations in Education Executive Director Holly Doherty-Lemoine, and Board member Tom McInerney, also talked about the importance of supporting Catholic education. “It’s all about the kids. They are going to leave these schools far better prepared,” said Tom McInerney. Holly added, “It’s simple – our children are worth it!”
