COVID-19 Update: Vaccinations
Eligibility to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in the State of Texas expanded to all adults earlier this week, and providers were also instructed to prioritize those 80 and older. Additionally, the State of Texas launched a new registration website and toll-free number for some public health vaccine clinics. The state website allows you to sign up for local providers. Click here to connect to that state vaccination sign-up website.

Last weekend, 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered to those who pre-registered at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway (BSW). Volunteers, city staff, along with elected leaders assisted with the efforts. The event was a collaboration with the City of Lakeway, Travis County, Lake Travis Fire Rescue and BSW.

A total of 79,324 cases have been reported to date in Travis County, with 2,547 of those cases from the Lake Travis area (zip codes 78734, 78738 and 78669). There are currently 1,033 active cases at this time (up from 993 last week) and 146 individuals hospitalized in the region (down from 157 last week). A total of 163,013 individuals have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Travis County through Austin Public Health according to the latest update to their dashboard (up from 139,452 last week). Travis County remains in Stage 3 of the risk-based guidelines. Whether you have or have not received a vaccine, it's still strongly encouraged to continue to social/physical distance between individuals not in your household, wear a proper face covering, and wash your hands regularly. Thank you for continuing to follow these guidelines.

Get Hopping Into City Events
With Easter Sunday this weekend, more and more individuals are looking for ways to celebrate the first major holiday of Spring. Last week, more than 50 families who pre-registered with the city's Cottontail EGGspress received a special visit from the Easter Bunny, along with several treats thanks to the coordination with the City of Lakeway's Parks & Recreation Department. The picture on the left shows the Easter Bunny before he hopped in the city's decked out bunny-mobile to deliver those special treats.

Earth Day Volunteer Opportunity
This month the City of Lakeway is working on organizing an Earth Day volunteer event to help clean up and beautify some of our local roadways and parks. The event will take place on Thursday, April 22 and begin around 11 a.m. at City Hall. Volunteers will be given a map, along with trash pickers, a safety vest and trash bags to pick up trash along some of our more popular local spots that tend to collect trash over time. The event will include some snacks, along with an activity that week from the city's Parks & Recreation Department. Click here to learn more and to sign up to volunteer for the event.
NEW: 'No Dumping' Drain Tags

The city's Environmental Coordinator has been working to add 450 city branded drain tags to the city's storm water covers. Parker, a local eagle scout stepped up to volunteer for the project and has already assisted in adding 70 of those tags this year (pictured above). The tags are intended to create awareness between the city's storm sewer system and Lake Travis. Curb inlets allow water to discharge into our lakes, creeks and other waterways. It is often the number source of pollution for waterways. Storm water runoff will pick up and carry pollutants generated from human activity into the drainage system, so please be sure to keep your property clean of harmful items that could affect our waterways.
NEW: I Heart Parks Event

There will be another volunteer event this spring besides the upcoming Earth Day project to help keep Lakeway beautiful. While the Earth Day event is more of a clean-up project, this additional event is all about adding some more plant life to our beautiful city. The city's Parks & Recreation team is looking for volunteers to assist staff in planting and mulching flower beds on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 8 a.m. to noon. Participants will meet at Lakeway Swim Center on that day for a continental breakfast and receive their location assignments. Registration is required for this volunteer event.
