We are pleased to welcome our new President-Elect Norbert Cordeiro (Tanzania/USA) and new councilors Amy Zanne (USA), Vinita Gowda (India), and Alvaro Duque (Colombia). They started their three-year terms on January 1st, 2022 and will serve through the end of 2024. We are thrilled to have them on board and deeply grateful to everyone who agreed to be nominated for the election.

Our sincere gratitude to our former Past-President, Sarah DeWalt, for her excellent work during her term. Emilio Bruna is now Past-President and Beth Kaplin is President of the Association. We also would like to thank our retiring councilors Daisy Dent, Gabriel Colorado, Imma Oliveras, and Onja Razafindratsima for serving during the past three years. We look forward to everyone's continued involvement with the Association.

The ATCB committees are the backbone of our Association. By implementing diverse activities, committees accomplish the ATBC objectives and mission. We are currently seeking new members for the various ATBC committees. Please let us know if you would like to join any committees and have a more active participation in the Association.

The call for abstracts for oral sessions, posters, and symposium presentations is now open.
Please submit an abstract highlighting your research results on any topic in tropical biology and conservation. Abstracts relating to the meeting's theme "Conserving Tropical Biodiversity and Achieving Socio-ecological Resilience in the Anthropocene: Opportunities and Challenges" are especially welcome.

The ATBC Capacity Building Committee is hosting an Abstract Writing Workshop that aims to provide key tips and recommendations on abstract writing. We will be conducting 2 hour Workshops scattered over two weeks to accommodate participants from different time zones and schedules, as follows:

Workshop 1: February 22nd, 2-4 pm (PST)

Workshop 3: March 2nd, 8-10 am (EST)

Workshop and Field Course proposal submissions for ATBC2022
|
|
The ATBC2022 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is pleased to invite the submission of proposals for workshops and field courses.
We welcome proposals from any topic related to tropical biology and conservation. Workshop proposals relating to the meeting's theme “Conserving Tropical Biodiversity and Achieving Socio-ecological Resilience in the Anthropocene: Opportunities and Challenges” are especially welcome. Multi or transdisciplinary proposals that go beyond traditional boundaries (e.g., workshops integrating art and science, or integrating social sciences and biology) are greatly encouraged.
The deadline for workshop proposal submissions is March 31st, 2022. Organizers will be notified of the Committee's decision by May 1st, 2022.

Apply for the 2022 Navjot Sodhi Award
|
|
Are you a passionate graduate student or postdoc from a developing country conducting research in tropical conservation biology?
|
|
Every year the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation presents the Navjot Sodhi Conservation Research Award to a student from a developing country conducting research in tropical conservation biology. This award is in remembrance and recognition of the contributions of our colleague and friend Navjot Sodhi, who inspired many students and colleagues with his passion for research and the conservation of tropical biodiversity.
The selected recipient will receive a cash award ($1000) to be used in research-related expenses. Nominees must be members of the ATBC and a current graduate student or a recent graduate of a M.S. or Ph.D. program (within the past 12 months). The complete nomination guidelines are available here.

Apply for the 2022 Seed Research Grant
|

Are you a graduate student conducting research in the tropics?
|
|
The ATBC Seed Research Grant supports research addressing tropical biology and conservation at the Masters and early Doctoral levels. The grant funds may be used for international/domestic travel, lodging, meals, and other research-related expenses. A full description of the ATBC Seed Research Grant Guidelines can be found here.
