Win the Day Health and Fitness Program Featured in The Kansas Nurse Magazine

Last month, Maryon Habtemariam, an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Wichita State University College of Health Professions' School of Nursing who served as program nurse for the Shocker Neighborhood Coalition's Win the Day Health and Fitness program, co-authored an article titled "Weight Perception and Barriers to Sustained Physical Activity" for  The Kansas Nurse magazine. The article addresses the problem of obesity in Kansas and discusses barriers Win the Day participants have faced when trying to begin or maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. The article also summarizes Win the Day program activities - sponsored by a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation - and concludes that medical professionals who are trying to promote change must be aware of the impact community engagement has upon the modification of behavior patterns.

Thank you to Maryon for her commitment to the Win the Day program and to helping each and every one of the Shocker Walkers pursue their fitness goals.
