FALL 2020 NEWSLETTER
A Message From The Executive Director
Dear friends, somehow we've made it to fall! The LQ team has been hard at work these last few months giving our clients the best and most responsive remote family law services possible. Attorneys are:
  • conducting intake,
  • preparing critical paperwork on a variety of matters,
  • making both remote and in-person appearances throughout the LASC system, and
  • working with partners to find solutions to critical issues affecting our low-income neighbors.

LQ's board has been right with us. From helping us conduct a client resiliency survey to launching a timely remote education series, these amazing volunteers are actively working to promote LQ's mission and strengthen the legal community. In this new Covid-19 environment, access to legal services and the courts is a very real struggle for many low-income persons, including those who are not fluent in English or who have other access challenges. Working with our legal services partners, LevittQuinn is committed to identifying and meaningfully addressing these issues.

We held our first ever digital gala! We are so grateful to the sponsors who supported us, and to the attendees who logged onto YouTube to celebrate with us. We remain hopeful that circumstances will improve in the coming year to allow us to safely gather together at Skirball once again. Save the date - we celebrate our 40th Anniversary on Saturday, September 11.

Stay tuned for our upcoming End of Year Campaign. This year we will raise funds to support our unique and award-winning Adoption Project. Like no other program, LQ provides free and sliding scale private (non-Dependency) adoption legal services to protect vulnerable LA County children from entering the foster care system, and to complete families through step-parent and adult adoption. We welcome your support.

Thank you for all you do! Be well, stay safe. Remember, we are stronger together.
OUR FIRST VIRTUAL GALA
Friends and supporters joined us virtually for our 39th Annual Stand for Justice Gala on September 12. Nearly 30 sponsors, led by Corporate Sponsor Signature Resolution, and Pillar Sponsors Bruce A. Clemens and Brandi Roth, and The Bill & Dinah Ruch Charitable Fund, came together in honor of Judge Bruce Iwasaki and the team behind the Skid Row Marathon documentary, Judge Craig Mitchell, Mark Hayes, and Gabriele Hayes.

Our heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors and to those who joined us on YouTube and gave so generously.

LQ EDUCATION SERIES
This July we launched a year-long education series designed to give practitioners the information and skills they need to navigate this new and uncharted legal practice landscape.

Five of the most recent former Family Law Department supervising judges kicked off the series with a timely discussion of perspectives on judicial leadership. Since, the series has shown participants how to present the most effective and professional remote appearance, preparing for and conducting virtual depositions, and how to approach business valuations in this Covid age.

EMPOWERED TOGETHER: NAVIGATING LEGAL CHANGES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
This summer, LevittQuinn Family Law Center and The Reape-Rickett Law Firm partnered to co-host a series of free webinars, designed for non-lawyers, our clients, and the general public, to offer essential information on navigating the legal effects of COVID-19. View the recordings here:

SERVING OUR VETS
LevittQuinn has been providing responsive family law services for our area veterans and active duty service members for many years. We didn't let Covid-19 stop us. So far this year, we held three remote clinics, serving 25 veterans from across Southern California to address their unresolved family law issues. Five volunteers, students and attorneys, not only joined us, but took extra time out of their busy schedules to learn how to conduct virtual clinics so that together we could safely give legal services to the vets who need us.
