Chamber honors community leaders, installs board
Awards Gala
A crowd of 300 people attended the Boyne Area Chamber Annual Awards Gala at Boyne Mountain Thursday night, presented by KorthaseFlinn Insurance and Financial Services. The attendees enjoyed great food and drink, entertainment from Nelson Olstrom and the presentation of awards to community leaders. The Chamber Board of Directors was installed by Mayor Tom Neidhamer with Mike Doumanian of Boyne Mountain taking over as board president for the year ahead. John Cool of Charlevoix State Bank was honored for serving as president for the past year, and retiring board members Kelly Woodard of Bella Vita and Shari Culver of Great Lakes Energy were thanked for serving on the board in recent years.

Here are the award winners:

Large Business of the Year - Boyne Mountain Resort , accepted by Avalanche Waterpark Manager and chamber board member Patrick Patoka. Award presented by Chris Staub of Gold Sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. This award is presented to a business with over 30 employees that has exemplified excellence in all fields including community service and customer service, has been an example to other businesses in the community, and is a leader in their industry and in the community as a whole.

Small Business of the Year - Boyne Country Propane, accepted by Matt McLeod and Todd Millen. Award presented by Pat Little of Gold Sponsor Boyne City Public Schools. This award is presented to  a business with less than 30 employees that has exemplified excellence in all fields including community service and customer service, has been an example to other businesses in the community, and is a leader in their industry and in the community as a whole.

Project of the Year - Boyne Avenue Properties LLC (Bay Area Management), accepted by Bob Earl and John Schneideer. Award presented by Mike Doumanian of Gold Sponsor Boyne Mountain. This award is presented to a brick-and-mortar improved, rehabbed, or new project that serves to improve the economic vitality and beauty of the community and enhances the quality of life in the Boyne area.

Rising Star Award - Boyne Valley Vineyards, accepted by Christi Mahaney and Mary Ann Lippe. Award presented by Bob Greenman of Gold Sponsor Family Fare. This award is presented to a business that has been open for less than two years and has brought something new, stimulating and valuable to the community, while working hard to become involved and immersed in the culture of the Boyne Area.

Community Impact Award - Nathan Bates (pictured), Food Service Director of Boyne Falls School. Award presented by Shari Culver of Gold Sponsor  Truestream Powered by Great Lakes Energy. This award recognizes those among us who best exemplify the Boyne values of community service, innovation, collaboration, integrity, and Boyne Pride. Nominees can be any business, organization, club, or individual who best represents our community.

Chamber Champion of the Year - Doug and Sharyn Bean. Award presented by 2018 Ambassador of the Year Brian Kozminski of True North Trout Fly Fishing Guide Service. Doug and Sharyn Bean have been active chamber volunteers and Ambassadors since they retired and moved to Boyne City more than a decade ago.

Sally Roselli Business Leadership Award - Mark Kowalske of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors. Award presented by Jeff Wellman of North Harbor Christie's International Real Estate. This award is named after Jeff Wellman's late sister-in-law, Sally Roselli, who was an active and involved business owner and chamber board member. The award recognizes the leadership of a business or individual who has the same qualities as Sally Roselli.
