Dear Friends,
I hope that in the midst of all the stress and anxiety of the pandemic, this contentious election, and shorter days with longer nights, you have been able to find some comfort in the arts. Beauty in many forms, whether it is in music or dance or visual art, can be stress-reducing and healing. While we can’t offer exhibits and performances in person right now, we are doing our best to offer you arts through virtual experiences.
And the artists are working! When I stopped by the Center today, I was delighted to see one of our studio artists, safely painting in her studio. And our songwriters have been busy, as shown by our virtual concert Covid 19 Galena, The Story in Song. As of the moment I am writing this, less than 24 hours after our concert’s YouTube premiere, we have already had 533 views!
We still have much to be grateful for.

Finding Beauty
A Virtual Exhibit

Once again we present a virtual exhibit in the form of a flip-book and slideshow. Many of the pieces are for sale. If you are interested in purchasing artwork, email Patricia Lehnhardt, our Gallery Manager, for information.

In these times of isolation, uncertainty, and anxiety we have asked the artists to find beauty. Find beauty in this very time and place we
find ourselves in,
find beauty in this imperfect world, in the nuances of their own backyard, or front porch, if that’s where they sit and ponder.
They have found beauty in the ordinary, the unspectacular, and unexpected places. Nature has been a popular subject as we turn toward the beauty that surrounds us. Each with their own special talents, more than twenty artists share their words and artwork.

Bob Rivoire has assembled a slideshow of his photographs, asking the question, "Is this beauty?" It is always in the eye of the beholder.

to present poetry from her new book
A Kinship with Ash

Come enjoy an online reading of poems from Galena native Heather Swan's A Kinship with Ash. Her poems have appeared in journals such as Poet Lore, Phoebe, The Hopper, The Raleigh Review, Midwestern Gothic. She teaches at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

We were excited to have our Premiere viewing of Covid 19 Galena, The Story in Song last week, and welcome anyone who missed it to view it using our YouTube Channel link.
|
|
We greatly appreciate the assistance of the Illinois Humanities in making this project possible.
Thanks also to the 18 song-writers, age 12 through senior citizens, who wrote new music for the virtual concert, and to our photographers Cindy Tegtmeyer, Alice McMahon, Henry Matthiessen lll, Alison Schoenrock, and Nancy Berning, and the Galena Gazette and Galena Country Tourism for letting us use their beautiful visuals.

We'll soon have DVDs of the concert for sale. When they
arrive you will be able to purchase them on our website.

We now have one studio immediately available to rent for $100 a month. A dedicated space may be just the thing you need to get back to your creative expression. Join a group of like-minded studio artists, be inspired by the regional artists who display work in our galleries, and display your art on the adjacent wall in the Artists Circle. |

Portraits of the Pandemic at DUMA

We celebrate the many artists who have exhibited in our galleries
and virtual flip books, who are included in Dubuque Museum of Art’s current exhibit, PORTRAITS OF THE PANDEMIC. This exhibit will be displayed in their gallery until February 7, 2021.

All River Road Talent hosts a monthly art drive the first weekend of each month. All River Road Talent is a synergy of artists building a cultural and visitor awareness of artistic talent in the Galena region of Northwest Illinois. The next ARRT tour is November 6 - 8. |
