New campaign in support of arts education for all students
ACDA has joined a nationwide coalition of arts organizations in an advocacy campaign entitled Arts ARE Education. You will be hearing more about this in coming weeks.
As states and schools work through multiple challenges in the years ahead, arts education must remain central to a well-rounded education and fully funded to support the well-being of all students and the entire school community.
But there are challenges ahead, most immediately in the 2021-22 school year. Arts ARE Education is a national campaign that will emphasize the need to fund, maintain, and grow arts education programs for all students throughout the country. Interested?
-
Sign the Arts ARE Education Pledge as an individual or an organization. The pledge asserts that the arts are part of a balanced education and asks signees to commit to supporting equitable access to arts education that includes instruction in all arts areas. https://www.artsareeducation.org/sign-the-pledge

Students Show Flexibility and Diligence
Despite the many challenges, in the fall our students were able to complete an audio-only recording session in our auditorium, while appropriately distanced. It was a success! In December, we were also able to record and stream a holiday performance in the atrium of our city's municipal center, without an audience. Our students have rehearsed at 9-feet distancing in the acoustically dead house of our auditorium, and they haven't complained once. We have reflected on how much we mourned the end of last school year without a final performance, and have agreed to make the best of this one despite the restrictions. . . .
It has been a blessing to see how positive the students are and how diligently they are turning in their practice assignments so that we can rehearse more effectively when we see one another in person. I am grateful that they continue to persevere and grow as musicians in a less than ideal environment. Read full post.
