Dear Seekers,
While listening to Boston Public Radio last week I heard an interview with Michael Norton, a researcher at Harvard Business School. His work has focused on how everyday rituals strengthen relationships. An article about this can be found
here.
He is basically stating what we, as Anglicans, have known all along; that rituals don't just strengthen our relationship with God, but they bind us together as well. This is one reason for coming to church every week. We join in a common and accessible ritual with one another that is open and inclusive of all people. We have the ritual of coming together each week, hearing stories, offering prayers and breaking bread.
I look forward each week to my Sunday ritual. I am connected more deeply to you, to God, and even myself.
In the Way of Love,
Debbie

This being the weekend we celebrate The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we will commemorate his witness, work and love of God during our services.
At 10:30 am, the music will come from Lift Every Voice and Sing. In the Gospel from John, we hear the story of John the Baptist's calling Jesus the Lamb of God, and hear of an early encounter between Jesus, Andrew and Simon Peter
.
At 4:00 pm, we will use the Iona community's service for peace and justice. Eric Wagner will give the reflection followed by communion. All are welcome to come.
Please join us wherever you are in your search for meaning.
Everyone is welcome at any and all services at Grace Episcopal Church

Bible Study new time: 6:15 pm
|
Bible Study continues each Wednesday at 6:15 pm. No prior knowledge needed at all. Come for the insights (and laughs) of studying Scripture together.

We will be giving thanks for the prayerful work of Martin Luther King, Jr. next week. The "prelude" at the 10:30 am service will be the "I Have a Dream" speech . The Epistle will come from "A Letter from a Birmingham Jail." We will sing hymns from the African American tradition and the anthem will be a beautiful setting of "This Little Light of Mine.".
At 4:00 pm, the Celtic service will offer music from the protest movements in both Ireland and America, and will use the "Peace and Justice" liturgy from the Iona Community.

We will be showing two films at Grace Church on Saturday, February 8th. At 4:00 pm, the movie "Lady and the Tramp" will be shown. From 5:30-7:00 pm, a spaghetti supper is offered in Abbot Hall. Following that at 7:00 pm is the movie, "Moonstruck," with Cher and Nicholas Cage. Whether you bring the family and watch a love story told through the eyes of two cartoon dogs, or come and be a part of our family as we watch love bloom beneath the full moon (yes, we even have one that night!) come and enjoy a delicious spaghetti supper and entertainment.
There are a number of ways you can help:
- Help with the dinner
- Come and bring your friends
- Help decorate the front of the church for the event
- Make a donation for supplies
- Be here the night of the movie to usher, collect tickets and greet

Annual Meeting January 26
|
Reception as an Episcopalian
|
Please let Debbie know by February 1st if you are interested in knowing more about the Episcopal Church and wish to be confirmed or received.
The Episcopal Church recognizes all baptized with water and in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as members of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Those whose baptisms have been registered in The Episcopal Church are considered baptized members. Upon reaching 16 years of age, baptized members are considered adult members.
A person seeking to join The Episcopal Church from another Christian church, if that person has been baptized with water and in the name of the Trinity, may become a baptized member of The Episcopal Church by having their baptism duly recorded in this church.
It is expected that all adult members of The Episcopal Church will be confirmed or received at some point.
Baptized persons who have received the laying-on of hands at Confirmation by a Bishop in apostolic succession should be considered baptized and confirmed and may therefore be received by a Bishop in this church "Bishops in apostolic succession" includes the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and the Polish National Catholic Church.
Baptized persons who have been confirmed or received by Bishops in communion with this church should be received, not confirmed. Bishops in communion with this church include other Bishops of the Anglican Communion, Bishops of churches resulting from the union of Anglicans with other churches (the Church of Bangladesh, the Church of North India, the Church of South India, and the Church of Pakistan), Bishops of the Old Catholic Union of Utrecht, the Philippine Independent Church, the Mar Thoma Church of Malabar, bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and bishops of the Northern Province and Southern Province of the Moravian Church.
Baptized persons who have not made such adult affirmations in their own traditions may be confirmed in this church.
