May our first responder, God,
be the merciful presence in the midst of absence.
May we breathe freely in body and spirit,
and shelter in the place of God’s grace and love.
May our eyes stay opened to seeing
we are one body created to cherish each other and this one earth home.
May we walk on in courage,
following the risen Christ,
leaning into the wild wonder
that something holy and extraordinary
can still happen in us, between us and all around us in this hurting and hoping world.

May it be so.

For the family of Breonna Taylor , Louisville, Ky., who was shot and killed by Louisville Police in her own home on March 13 . We pray for her family and are moved to act for justice to be served for the wrongful death of yet another Black member of God’s beloved community.

We pray during this season of COVID-19 alongside…

Alliance-endorsed chaplains serving in healthcare and who serve on the front lines every day during this pandemic. We also pray for healthcare workers and all of those who are risking their health for the safety and health of the whole.

Alliance-affiliated pastors who serve and lead congregations through this pandemic. We pray for those who are offering pastoral care and providing spiritual engagement while adhering to the advice of doctors to prioritize social distancing.

We pray in gratitude for those essential workers who have kept grocery stores, pharmacies, and essential businesses running. And we fervently pray for the will to make needed systemic changes that this pandemic has even further illuminated, for as William Barber II has written , "With its broad sweep, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us into an unprecedented national emergency. This emergency, however, results from a deeper and much longer term crisis—that of poverty and inequality, and of a society that ignores the needs of 140 million people who are poor."
