Eric Adams' Hilarious Swagger on SNL
Entertaining and promising -- yet also troubling
SOS #145 -- J. Morris Hicks -- (2-15-22)

Now, back to the mayor. When I first saw the Eric Adams inspired SNL skit a few weeks ago, I was thrilled, delighted and entertained by the swagger and humor. Then, not too long thereafter, I became troubled by the performance.

At first, I was delighted because this fantastic seven-minute video tells me that this plant-eating, ecologically-savvy, mayor of New York City is now a bona-fide celebrity all over the world.

As I concluded long ago, in order to be able to influence the world, one must be well-known and respected on the global stage -- and it looks like my favorite elected official in the world is off to a good start.

Secondly, I was entertained because it was a classic SNL kind of skit that enables us to have fun in the midst of a world full of never-ending bad news about a host of issues -- the most serious of which is the rapidly declining ability of our ecosystem to keep humans alive.

Enjoy the 7-minute video and I will catch you on the other side.
Since over 75% of my readers never watch the videos, I am going to share a few lines from this one with you in writing.

As the video begins, the lady next
to the mayor announces:

  • We have a new mayor now...and he is HONGRY!!

  • His name is Eric Adams, and he's the friskiest uncle at yo barbecue.

Along about the 1:20 mark,
the mayor announces with sexual innuendo:

I'm muscular, I'm vegan and I get that thing-thing everyday before breakfast, alright?

You can't start the day without finishing first!
You understand me?
So far, so good, right? Then, I got to thinking about the mayor's character (Chris Redd) reminding us in the video that he is "vegan." Normally, I would be happy to hear him casually make such a statement that will be heard by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Now for the troubling part. As I heard him say that he was "vegan" in the video, I remembered reading recently that the mayor often likes to eat fish when he dines out in New York.

Well, vegans don't eat fish.

So, I did a quick search and sure enough, I found this 2-5-22 article in the Intelligencer section of New York Magazine, entitled "Eric Adams Eats Fish."

You can read the details in the article above and draw your own conclusions -- but the cat is out of the bag -- and the mayor's credibility will suffer if some of his constituents think of this as a breach of integrity.

While most people won't care what he eats, there are some very powerful people out there who will care -- and it's the kind of rumor that will greatly inhibit the new mayor's ability to influence his 10 or 15 million constituents to start fighting climate change with their knives, forks and spoons.

The realization of that issue is when my heart sank. Although I knew that this information would not bother most people, it does bother me. Even though I know a few people who call themselves vegan, yet eat fish from time to time, it's a whole different deal when when one of the most influential people in the world makes that statement.
So how can I help Mayor Adams as his staff practices damage control?
As you may know, for several months I have been promoting the fact that Mayor Eric Adams -- is vegan and that he published this 2020 book on the subject.

As mayor of the world's most influential city, his ability to promote plant-based eating all around the globe is enormous.

Just think about the possibilities. As billions of people around the world follow his dietary lead for their own health -- just think of the enormous positive impact on climate change that is possible.

He may be able to singlehandedly move the needle as it relates to rapidly reducing the leading driver of climate change: animal agriculture. Just think about that!

While most people don't think of fish as farm animals -- their factory style capture, killing and processing methods throughout the world play a HUGE role in destroying the ocean's ecosystems which also play an outsized role in species extinction and climate change.

  • Note: In the mayor's 2020 book above, on page # 108, he lists nine reasons why plant-based eating is best for the environment. In other parts of the book, the word "fish" was found 13 times -- and, in no cases, was the consumption of fish recommended.

Actually, this fish-eating confusion is a big deal -- one that the mayor's team should address carefully. Like I said, even though most people won't currently care whether the mayor is a true vegan or not -- they will eventually care muchl more, once they learn about the horrendous impact that industrial fishing is having on a host of environmental factors.

If everyone in the world, including Mayor Adams and his staff, would take just 89 minutes to watch the powerful 2021 film below during the next few weeks -- many of them will stop eating all sea creatures -- and the atrocities of the seas would be in sharp decline by the end of the year.

Further, along with the decline of those atrocities, the world will have taken a HUGE step in the direction of fighting climate change, species extinction and the declining ability of Mother Nature to keep us alive.

To summarize, I believe that the mayor now finds himself in a delicate situation, but I am confident that he will end up doing the right thing.

Why do I believe that? Because I believed the mayor two years ago, when he responded to moderator, Chris MacAskill in a terrific, 2020 video. When asked if he was concerned that describing himself as being vegan -- might hurt him politically, Mr. Adams stated that he was not concerned about that -- because, over his career, he had become known for:

always really leaning into what's right...
Well, for a whole host of reasons, eating exclusively plant-based foods is definitely what's RIGHT.

That said, I am highly confident that, after the mayor learns more about the ecological horrors of eating seafood that he will end up doing the right thing.

He can begin by watching Seaspiracy -- followed by a conference call with Dr. Sylvia Earle, one of the world's leading scientific authorities on the supreme importance of ocean health.

Dr. Earle is now 86 years old, yet took time to make an appearance in last year's Seaspiracy documentary. She knows that healthy oceans play a crucial role in the overall health of the biosphere and its ability to keep us alive.

The Seaspiracy film is the latest and loudest reminder that we're literally killing our mother as we systematically destroy the precious biosphere that gives us life.

To be sure, the new mayor of New York City can play a huge role in changing the narrative on one of the most crucial topics in the history of humanity: ending our love affair with consuming the flesh, eggs and/or milk/cheese of other creatures -- whether those animals have hooves, fins, shells or feathers.
The Bottom Line
New York City Mayor Eric Adams
is in the right place at the right time
I discovered the leadership potential of Eric Adams on this vital topic back in November of 2021. I did my homework and started digging up all the information that I could find about this exceptional leader.

Then, I wrote him a lengthy letter and included that letter in this very comprehensive SOS Memo on 11-16-21, entitled: Emerging Ray of Hope for Humanity. Here is one heartfelt sentence that appeared about halfway through my letter to him:

  • "While your constituents elected you to look after the needs of what is likely the world’s most complex city -- your rare knowledge regarding the power of our food choices, coupled with your visibility as one of the best-known leaders in the world -- makes you perhaps the most capable person on Earth when it comes to saving our species."

For the most part, the mayor is practicing what he preaches about his passion for helping his constituents learn how to take charge of their health and reverse their chronic diseases.

Incredibly, just last week, he announced the launching of new lifestyle medicine clinics in all five boroughs of NYC. You see, over one million of his constituents have type 2 diabetes, a disease that he knows well. After successfully reversing his own diabetes by switching to whole food, plant-based diet -- he helped his mother reverse hers.

And now, he's going to help hundreds of millions of people around the world reverse theirs. As he influences them to walk away from eating animal-based foods for their diabetes or heart disease -- conveniently, they will also be helping to save our fragile ecosystem that keeps us alive.

In this great video published by the mayor's office on February 7, he makes the power of healthy eating crystal clear when he explains his own successful reversal of type 2 diabetes in this two-minute video:

"The cause was not my DNA. It was my dinner!"
Just last week, the mayor continued to get very positive press for all that he is doing to save human lives.

To be sure, I think the new mayor of NYC is doing a great job and I have even applied for a position in his administration -- a role in which I believe that I could draw on my extensive engineering, executive and activist background to help leverage his rare, powerful and inspiring leadership throughout the world.

Of course, we continue to search for other courageous leaders to step up -- since the world desperately needs all of the fully-enlightened and courageous leadership that we can get. Two more of those potentially powerful leaders, along with Mayor Adams, are included in this SOS Memo that was posted two weeks ago on 2-1-22.

Ending today with the second video in a three-part series from the New York Times. The first one was in my SOS Memo last week and you can access it here: Meet the people getting paid to kill our planet.

The section below will continue to provide you with handy reference materials on this most crucial of all topics.
"Big Picture"
Data and Info Section
This section has been appearing at the end of my weekly SOS Memos for several months. It contains links to relevant information that form the foundation of what our options for responding quickly and appropriately to our global crises appear to be.

In order to respond appropriately, we must first grasp the all-important "big picture" regarding how we got to where we are in the first place. The various links below will help you do that.

This powerful summary by Dr. Sailesh Rao was added on February 4, 2022. The FACTS about climate change being the leading cause of climate change.

Next is a half-hour video that was published in November of 2021. It as produced by Michael Dowd, a non-scientific researcher like me who does a very fine job of explaining the many facets of the obstacles standing between us and survival as a species.

Dowd has a pretty good handle on most things, but he seems to be unaware of the simple weapon that we can all use to fight the leading driver of climate change. Our forks.

That said, he does a terrific job of describing our ever-worsening dilemma. Click the link below to view this very informative 33-minute video, published November 15, 2021.

This next item is a free 83-minute documentary film that is all about the findings that were documented in Dr. Stephen Emmott's 2013 book. TEN BILLION.
This powerful film will certainly help more people grasp that all-important "big picture." Just click on the hourglass image.

I will continue sharing this TEN BILLION link in future weekly SOS Memos
More Data re Leading Driver of Climate Change.

Beginning in September of 2021, I have been including links to world-changing scientific information that thought leaders everywhere should read and and share with others.

What can you do? For starters, you can buy the new documentary -- Eating our way to Extinction for $6 on Netflix -- and watch it often with your friends and family.

Also, you can:

  • Share this SOS Memo with everyone you know.
  • Get an e-copy of OUTCRY. Visit Outcry page on Amazon and get a much bigger understanding of the situation in which all humans find ourselves.
  • Inform all the young people in your world that you are deadly serious about this topic. Urge them to read these SOS Memos and our latest book, OUTCRY.
  • Completely stop eating meat, dairy, eggs and fish today and tell everyone why you are taking such a "radical" step. You're doing it for the innocent children of the world.

  • As noted above, do yourself a favor and make sure that your plant-based meals of the future consist of whole plants -- the kinds of foods that prevent or reverse most chronic diseases AND enable your body to effortlessly seek its optimal weight.
A final word. Hopefully, the kind of crucially serious situations expressed in these SOS Memos will soon replace meaningless and trivial topics that dominate a ridiculously large percentage of all of the conversations in the world.

We must all start talking much more about what's really important. That is , we must start doing everything possible to maximize the chances of a meaningful and pleasant life ahead for the young people of the world.

I volunteer to help you do that. For Free. Invite me to collaborate with you and your group via Zoom. To help you jump-start that all-important conversation, I will be happy to present and discuss this topic at length. Here's an advance link to my standard presentation: 62 slides.

“Food, protein, pandemics and the future of humanity” This is the latest title slide that I am currently using for those kinds of sessions:
The image above is a clue regarding the essence of my "family game plan" that is revealed only in my talks. I do not put that in writing.

Want to share some of my SOS Memos with others? Visit my SOS Memos page where the most recent ones are listed first.

Finally, I am confident that if a few million people carefully read and digested OUTCRY, that there might at least be a more robust conversation taking place about our grossly unsustainable way of living in the developed world -- and what it will take to get us focused on maximizing our chances of survival as a species.

To be sure, we must do a lot more than change what we eat -- and OUTCRY helps explain the "why" and the "how" of that proposition.

To my knowledge, OUTCRY remains the only book ever published that features an envisioned, totally-green, ultra-sustainable, super-desirable, future way of living for humans -- along with ideas for how we might get there as quickly as possible.

Regarding the free Zoom conferences with your group,
Send me an email and let's get started.
Our book, for a host of environmental reasons, is only available as an e-book on Amazon. As such, it contains hyperlinks to hundreds of references and videos, is less expensive, does not kill any trees and does not have to be manufactured and delivered.

The links below to earlier SOS Memos will help you understand how these ideas unfolded since 2018.
You can join my mailing list and/or find all of my previous postings by visiting the SOS Memos page on my website.
As always, I am just trying to help spark the all-important "conversation" about what is needed. By sharing a vision of what I believe is possible, I hope to influence others to think bigger, faster, better and bolder.

You will find that there aren't many books that cover both the health of your body and the health of your planet. This is one of them -- a book that my son Jason assisted me in writing. It was published ten years ago this month.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
