CAM Board of Directors Election Postponed One Year

After careful deliberation, the CAM Board of Directors has voted to postpone the Association’s election of new directors by one year, to February 2022. This is in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has made it difficult for the directors and officers of the Board to interact with the membership and to contribute in customary and meaningful ways to CAM and its members during their current term of office.  COVID-19 has disrupted the business and activities of CAM in many unforeseeable ways, resulting in the cancellation or delay of classes, social events and many other services to comply with mandated shutdowns and to protect the health of its employees and members. Members of the current Board of Directors have graciously agreed to serve one additional year until we can undertake a new election next year. The normal nomination and election cycles are expected to resume next year as the COVID-19 crisis abates. This year, CAM has worked diligently to get our industry back to work and keep our members safe. In fact, the construction industry was one of the first to get back to work on May 7th. CAM developed and has maintained a thorough list of COVID-19 news and resources to keep our members informed and up-to-date. Through its training and education department, CAM launched a series of virtual classes so our members could continue their educational pursuits during the pandemic. We introduced a new CAM Mobile App that offers a digital version of the Construction Buyers Guide and quick access to upcoming events and the latest CAM news. Additionally, we rolled out the mobile-responsive member portal to allow members to access account history, pay for invoices, and register for events. Despite these changing and uncertain times, CAM remains dedicated to its members and to the construction industry in the state of Michigan. 2021 CAM Buyers Guide: Contracts Accepted Until November 16th

The CAM Buyers Guide is published annually and is the most comprehensive and user-friendly construction directory in the state. More than 5,000 copies are distributed each year. CAM now offers display advertising (in addition to member listings) for CAM member companies. President of the Construction Association of Michigan Kevin Koehler discussed construction in the time of COVID with host Ken Rigulski on WJR’s October 20th “Building Michigan Show.” The “Building Michigan Show” highlights the construction industry throughout the state of Michigan. LTU Offers Free COVID-19 Safety Training to Small Construction Firms

Lawrence Technological University (LTU) is offering free COVID-19 safety training to construction firms with fewer than 100 employees under a grant from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Two-hour COVID-19 safety training sessions are now available in various formats--in-person, online, as well as an online seminar that multiple firms may simultaneously attend. The training will be offered by Ahmed Al-Bayati, assistant professor of civil and architectural engineering at LTU. Construction firms interested in the free training should email Al-Bayati.

National Apprenticeship Week Is Almost Here

National Apprenticeship Week takes place November 8th-14th. As part of this event, the Michigan Apprenticeship Steering Committee, Inc. presents a virtual learning program to highlight Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeships across the state of Michigan. November 9th, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Virtual zoom conference Click here for more information and to register The program will feature multiple skilled trades programs and offer many apprentices and apprentice mentors sharing insights about their experiences, training, safety, and futures. View job sites through the eyes of apprentices, who will be sharing from job sites where they are currently working. Each represented trade will briefly share their respective program and offer knowledge from instructors and training directors.
