"This presentation will be a look at the two main (and sometimes conflicting) aspects of my astronomical career, the search for comets, and the relation of English poetry to the night sky.  One involves looking at the sky; the other involves feeling the sky."

Manuel (Manny) Pimenta is an Electrical Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. He is currently Director of Process and Technology for an engineering consulting firm in the Electric Utility industry. He has also worked on airborne radar and advanced radar jamming systems for a major defense contractor. He became involved in space advocacy in 2000. His primary interest is Space colonization and his focus is on establishing a permanent human presence on the Moon.

He has been active in several space advocacy organizations: He has been Return To The Moon project manager at the Space Frontier Foundation (SFF), organized two Return To The Moon conferences for the SFF. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors for the International Lunar Observatory Association (ILOA). He was also a member of ProSpace and participated in 8 consecutive yearly “March Storm” congressional space lobbying drives in Washington DC. And Served as Vice President of the New York City chapter of the National Space Society.

He founded Lunar Explorer and in 2006 released the world’s first fully immersive, interactive Virtual Reality simulation of the Moon, which was also called Lunar Explorer. He has given presentations at many space conferences, lectured at NYU, Princeton, and Rutgers University, and participated in a number of NASA workshops at NASA Ames.

He founded Virtual Moon to create a new and massively updated version of the original Lunar Explorer VR simulation and take advantage of the new consumer level VR technology that we have today but that was not available when Lunar Explorer was originally created. He is on a mission to create the most accurate and realistic VR simulation of the Moon possible – an experience that is visually indistinguishable from actually being there – and make it available for free to every single person on Earth who wants to experience it.

Philippe Van Nedervelde

Award-winning 30 year veteran VR/AR/MR creator. Founded and runs E-SPACES for 25+ years, the world's oldest continuously operated VR/AR development studio.

As one of the earliest, still active practitioners of VR UI/UX design, his track record traces the development history of multi-user virtual worlds, a.k.a. metaverses. His 100+ delivered VR/AR projects include the pioneering metaverse CyberTerm (1991), one of the earliest working prototype fully 3D metaverses ever; VisCIS (1992), a working prototype for turning CompuServe into a metaverse; and CyberTown (1993), a working VR e-commerce platform prototype for online VR shopping, produced well before the web went mainstream. After having produced five metaverses for paying clients over the past three decades, he is presently building his sixth and most ambitious metaverse yet, this time not for clients.

Serving blue chip clients worldwide for 25+ years, VR highlights include Virtual Europe (for the European Commission & inaugurated by PM Tony Blair at Cardiff’s ‘98 EU Summit); the SimsalaGrimm fairytale wonderland for children; Virtual Munich Airport Center (“Best VR Application” award of VR World Congress 2001, Barcelona); and a crowning glory of the social VRML era: ICITY (2000). Led E-SPACES to swiftly become "Preferred Content & Application Development Partner" of Blaxxun Interactive, developer of the world-leading social VR platform of the 90s.

Co-founder & CTO of disruptive AR/VR security & surveillance tech startup Panoptic Systems, Inc. in L.A. Applied his 3D UI & AR/VR UX design expertise to revolutionize cognitive ergonomics performance in surveillance systems. Inventor of Panoptic's breakthrough C-Thru system.

Helmed X3D Technologies —a Palm Beach, FL VR startup co-founded by Hollywood director Michael Bay— and was instrumental in its merger in 2002 into Multicast Media Technologies of Atlanta, GA.
