WVCS Will Begin Serving Hot Lunches Next Week!
We are excited to announce that we will be bringing back hot lunches next week! Check out the schedule below to get an idea of what we will be serving for the next four weeks. Lunches will cost $6 and payments can be made in the school office. Cash or check only please. We encourage families to pay at least a couple of weeks in advance so that students who wish to buy hot lunch have money in their lunch account when they need it.
Meet the Chefs!
The chef’s name is Sherry. Her assistant's name is Iman. The business name is Sherry Banoo, INC. They are ServeSafe Certified. Sherry has two grown sons – 23 and 17. She came to The Lord because her oldest son was very ill and hospitalized. On May 11, 2011, she migrated to the US with her husband and two sons. They started - like all immigrants – with adapting to their new country and learning not only the language, but the American culture. In 2013, Sherry began working with Farmers Insurance and soon after started her own agency. As the agency grew and got on a “roll”, Sherry went back to her first passion – cooking.

With friends and family always enjoying her food and encouraging her to start her own catering business, Sherry started in a humble kitchen and very quickly grew to serve an established number of clients and events. One day, speaking with a school mom, Sherry found out that WVCS was not offering hot lunches due to the pandemic. Having been a school mom and working mom herself, she knew how hard it can be for parents to pack lunch every day. Her goal is to serve our kids hot lunch while giving parents a much needed break from packing lunch and the agonizing thought of what to pack tomorrow! Food is made fresh every day and served with vegetables and fresh fruit to build strong healthy bodies. Feel free to stop by the kitchen to meet Sherry and sample her food!
Japanese Culture Art
Art with Mrs. Kim

The 1st grade students were reminded of the different cultural art styles all over the world. Coi Fish are a very popular traditional art subject in Japan and our 1st graders did a wonderful job painting them this week in Art. They looked at the shape of the Coi Fish and used observational drawing techniques to successfully create their own circular Coi Fish design. This project will be on display at Open House so be sure to check them out!

STEM with Mrs. Fiske
This week in STEM class...

There was a lot of counting and math going on in the Makerspace Room this week as elementary school students got to celebrate 100 days of school in STEM! Lower grades practiced counting out 100 manipulatives to use for building while middle grades were challenged to build a 3-dimensional number 100 out of exactly 100 Legos. Upper grades got to travel between 8 different 100-themed stations which included things like calculating 100 of their steps, coming up with creative expressions equaling 100, and trying to fit 100 drops of water on a penny. Meanwhile, 7th graders had a robot-filled week with DASH and learned how to program him with block code. They successfully completed their first robot class challenge called "Defender of the Tower."

Children’s Hunger Fund: Poverty Encounter
1st Grade Makes a Difference

1st grade has been talking about cultures around the world and the poverty that exists all around us. This week, the students had a chance to go to Children’s Hunger Fund and participate in their Poverty Encounter exhibit. They got to walk through rooms that depicted the lives of children around the world who live in poverty. They learned how the local churches around the world are working with CHF to bring food to these families in need. They also had the opportunity to volunteer and help pack boxes of food that will be sent out to churches around the world, and end up in the homes of children who are in need. It was an experience that will hopefully stick with them for many years to come!
