City of Venice is jumpstarting Florida’s sustainable transportation future with
FPL EVolution

The City of Venice partnered with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to install four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in City locations – giving local EV drivers convenient and free places to charge up while jumpstarting Florida’s sustainable transportation future.

The Venice-FPL partnership is part of FPL EVolution, an innovative pilot program designed to boost Florida’s EV infrastructure and support EV adoption by partnering with leading organizations, businesses and municipalities to install 1,000 plus charging ports at more than 100 locations across Florida.

FPL recently installed four EV charging ports in Venice. Two of the four ports were installed in Centennial Park at 200 W. Venice Ave., just steps away from the Venice Downtown District. The remaining two charging ports were installed at 1575 E. Venice Ave. at the City’s new Public Safety Facility, home of the Venice Police Department.

The stations are Level 2 chargers and will provide EV drivers with approximately 25 miles of range per one-hour charge. FPL EVolution provides the new charging station and installation at no cost to the City. The City will be allowing EV drivers to charge up for free.

As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, Gulf Coast Community Foundation wanted to spotlight our environmental work in a way the entire community could experience. That’s why two unique “larger than life” sea-turtle sculptures will soon greet beachgoers at Siesta and Venice Public Beaches.

Designed by the renowned Scenic Studio of Asolo Repertory Theatre, the turtles will “eat” gallons upon gallons of plastic in the hopes that their real-world counterparts won’t have to. The sculptures will serve not only as waste-collection spots but also educational opportunities to highlight the problem of marine debris.
