Update from the President & CEO
Friends of the Gateway Region — Happy New Year! I realize we’ve been in 2022 for over a month now, but considering how Virginia’s Gateway Region faired during 2020–2021 — not only surviving but growing through COVID-19 rounds one and two, motivates the VGR Team for another year of continued success.

Next, in January, we were honored to welcome Elso DiFranco to VGR’s Board of Directors. Mr. DiFranco is the General Manager of AMPAC Fine Chemicals’ recently expanded facility within Petersburg’s Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing cluster that is putting the city in the national spotlight because of the real impact this pharma hub can have on United States’ national security. While that is unspeakably exciting for America, what the Gateway Region has to look forward to are the jobs, development and economic prosperity this cluster can create for our member communities, and the quality of life for the residents and people working within our seven-locality Region. In addition, we are looking forward to working with Petersburg’s recently-hired Director of Economic Development, Brian Moore — welcome to the Gateway Region, Brian.

As always, I’m interested in hearing from you. Should you have any questions, please contact me at: +1 (804) 732-8971 or kboswell@gatewayregion.com.

“It was a difficult way for our members to start 2022, facing cold days and frigid nights without electricity. We know not having power is frustrating and disruptive for everyone. I appreciate our members’ patience through this ordeal,” said Jeff Edwards, SEC’s president and CEO. “I also appreciate the efforts of our SEC employees and our partners from other cooperatives and contractors working so diligently to get everyone’s power back on.”
