In Person/Blended Learning
As Mr. Gurka shared yesterday, we are pleased to report that Governor DeWine once again announced that Cuyahoga County has remained at level 2 (orange) for an additional week.  Consequently, we are moving forward with bringing our students back to the middle school.
For students who will be returning to NRMS for in person learning, we will follow the following process:
  • Monday, September 21 will be a remote learning day for the District, as will every Monday as long as we are in the Blended or Remote Learning Phase.
  • Tuesday, September 22, the following grades of students with the last names A- K will report to school:
  • Kindergarten, 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th grade
  • The remaining students will have a remote learning day.
  • Wednesday, September 23, the following grades of students with the last names L - Z will report to school:
  • Kindergarten, 1st, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th grade
  • The remaining students will have a remote learning day.
  • Thursday, September 24, the following grades of students with the last names A- K will report to school:
  • 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th grade
  • The remaining students will have a remote learning day.
  • Friday, September 25, the following grades of students with the last names L - Z will report to school:
  • 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th grade
  • The remaining students will have a remote learning day.
  • Monday, September 28 will be a remote learning day of the entire District.
  • Tuesday, September 29 and Thursday, October 1: All students with the last names A - K report to school.
  • Wednesday, September 30 and Friday, October 2: All students with the last names L-Z report to school.
Please know that we will refer to the A-K/Tuesday/Thursday students as Purple and L-Z/Wednesday/Friday students as Gold.  Hopefully this will help with teacher/student communication on team.

When a grade level is in person next week, the students in that grade who remain home on the opposite day will have assignments to complete.  They will not be able to follow the remote schedule as their teachers will be with students here at school.  When grade levels are not in the building next week, they will follow our current remote schedule for the Phase In Week only.

Starting on Tuesday, September 29, please recognize that teachers will be live with students in school.  Consequently, they will not be readily available throughout the day because they will be teaching the students who are here at NRMS.  Teachers and staff will follow up with students and parents as quickly as possible.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher, school counselor, grade level principal, or me.  Regardless of environment, I know that our entire NRMS family will work hard to inspire great this year!

Thanks,
Jeff
Important Notes:

Remote Learning Team

NRMS In Person Logistics
Schedule
  • Please access the schedule in Progress Book to make sure your son or daughter knows where to report next week on his or her first day of in person learning.  Students will not have the 20 minute homeroom period that was scheduled during remote learning.  All students will report to their first period class.
Masks
  • Wearing a mask is required at all times unless there is a teacher/staff directed student mask break.  Students are allowed to lower their masks to drink from their own water bottles.  Please note that the water fountains are disable, but the water bottle fillers are accessible.  Additionally, students are allowed to lower their masks to eat during their teacher directed snack time, breakfast, and/or lunch.  Gaiters can be worn providing they cover the student's nose and chin.  Please keep an extra mask in your book bag.
Arrival/Breakfast
  • Students who arriving to school by car will use Entrance 1 on Ridge Road closest to Royalton Road.  Those students will exit their cars near the Athletic Entrance.  Please exit the campus by using the exit on Royalton Road next to the Board Office.
  • Students will be dismissed from the bus starting at 7:45 AM.  3 to 5 buses will be dismissed at a time.  Students should maintain maximum social distancing while walking to their first period class.  Students are permitted to get breakfast prior to going to their first period class.  Breakfast must be eaten in the cafeteria or taken directly to the student's first period class.  If students are not eating in the cafe, they can only eat once they are seated in their assigned seat in their first period class.  Students can stop in the Media Center for Chromebook issues.
Lunch
  • Both the cafeteria and the media center will be utilized for lunch.  Students will sit in designated seats and designated tables (signs will be on tables).  Students will have two weeks, which equates to three days of school and then that will be their assigned seat.  We will note where students sit during the first two weeks as well.  One team in each grade will eat in the Media Center:
    • Grade 5 - Maverick
    • Grade 6 - All Stars
    • Grade 7 - Fire
    • Grade 8 - Gold
Lockers
  • All student lockers will be unavailable until further notice.
Supplies
  • The students' teachers will communicate what supplies are needed as we start the transition to in person learning.
Recess
  • There is no recess until further notice.
Dismissal
  • Students will be dismissed by class and walked to the exits by their last period teacher.
Service Animals
Please know that there will be a service dog in our school assisting one of our students.  This service dog is a trained support for the student and is able to assist him or her in many of the daily routines while learning at school.  This certified service dog is highly trained and recognized by an accredited training facility.  The student's right to have a certified service dog is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act; therefore, the handler/student will have the dog in all educational environments throughout the school day.  Staff and students will be informed as to proper procedures around the animal because the animal is not a pet, but a certified working service dog while at school.  We look forward to this new addition to our school community.

Scholastic Art & Writing Competition
The NRMS Art Department would like to invite students to enter the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition.  Mrs. Harold will gladly help anyone who is interested.  It is open to any student who is 13 years old or older.  The deadline to enter is December 8.  Please click here or email Mrs. Harold at [email protected] if you would like to explore this opportunity.  You do not have to be enrolled in art to take part in this competition.
