In this week's One Takes series, Katherine Kerr reflects on what it means to bring our full - not perfect - selves to church, honoring the broad spectrum of emotions many of us are experiencing as we navigate this new chapter of the pandemic and return to normal activities. Katherine also speaks to the many resources available to members during this time, encouraging any and all to reach out for support where needed.

Join friends for Open Picnic Table, a weekly informal Wednesday evening family gathering under Covenant's Magnolia tree. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy time together every Wednesday between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. through the summer. Sweet treats are provided. This is a rain-or-shine event. In the case of inclement weather, we'll meet in the Fellowship Hall.

Grab-N-Go Family Meal - Last Meal for June & July!

Take and bake meals are available for pick-up between 4:30-6:00 p.m. and next Wednesday, 6/30, will be the last Grab-N-Go meal for June and July. More information will be shared when this program resumes.

The menu for 6/30 includes 1/2 bbq chicken (1 breast, leg, thigh and wing), mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread muffins and dutch apple pie.

This past year has challenged our Covenant community - and our nation - to listen, learn, understand and grow as we continue to walk the journey toward a more inclusive and equitable world. This past Saturday, as we marked the now nationally recognized federal holiday, Juneteenth, we reflected on the historical and current racial injustices that exist in our country. As we continue our work to listen, learn, understand and grow, we invite you to participate in our ongoing Summer Racial Justice series, See. Grow. Act. with upcoming opportunities for book studies and a historic excursion.

Our summer series, focused on better understanding racial and economic injustice, continues this week with book studies on In My Grandmother's House by Yolanda Pierce. The book is available through Covenant at the Welcome Center ($14, cash or check) and studies will be held this Thursday, June 24 and Sunday, June 27. Sign up for a book study.

Visit the Brooklyn Collective

August 27 from 1-3 p.m.

We'll visit the Brooklyn Collective, an organization of members and actions that honor the historic Brooklyn community leaders and the founders of the historic uptown buildings. These buildings represent the cornerstones of the Brooklyn neighborhood since the 1880s through its unjust destruction in the late 1960s with so-called "urban renewal" programs. Enjoy refreshments and fellowship after the tour.

We continue our series on "A Thinking Person's Guide to Faith" with worship in person in the Sanctuary (or live online) at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Adult Education Summer Sunday School is hosted in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This week, Mary Parrish Coley will be teaching about lessons learned of faith from childhood comics.

Our Adult Education Summer Sunday School takes place in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. throughout the summer.

This class will focus on today's "everyday theologians," featuring contemporary people who have influenced our world. We'll study authors, actors, athletes, and more, all of whom have lived their life in a way that it inspires our faith. They are our modern-day teachers of faith.

This is an opportunity to talk with one another, connect with friends, engage in discussion and grow together.

In response to God's Grace, Covenant's mission is to participate in holistic partnerships with organizations which provide hope, help, and dignity to those in the severest need.

Covenant's Grant's Committee extends God's love beyond our congregation by considering grant applications for the 2022 budget.

Members of the Covenant community are invited to apply for these Mission Grants on behalf of the organizations they support. Applications must be received by August 31, 2021.

Make plans to join us for our first adult mission trip since the pandemic began. We will visit Avery County from September 26 - October 2 to work on Habitat houses and to partner with other organizations in the area such as the Crossnore School and Children's Home. There will be many opportunities for bonding and fellowship with attendees, helping the group to create memories that will last well beyond the trip.

On Tuesday, June 29, Covenant will serve dinner to the more than 300 men experiencing homelessness who rely on Roof Above's shelter. Texas Hash casseroles, desserts and fresh fruit are needed for the meal and can be dropped off anytime in the church freezer in the Fellowship Hall.

Welcome back families! We are thrilled to offer our youngest members a time to gather for Bible stories, group activities and fellowship. Please consider volunteering to help shepherd children's Sunday School classes at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Simple lesson plans are provided.

Angel Makers are needed to help make this year’s angel Christmas ornament. Anyone with willing hands and an interest in crafting is welcome to join this group every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall room 207 until the project is complete. Come weekly or drop in every once in a while.
