Ms. Smith explained that we’re all remote not because we think the whole Middle School is compromised, but that since so many adults in our Middle School need to quarantine—there just aren’t enough adults to run the Middle School and have classes in person. We acknowledged the many mixed feelings our community is facing this morning, and I reiterated that I feel confident that we’ve created a very safe environment at school, and students can rest assured that BVR has done everything to keep each student and adult safe.
We then dove into the logistics of being all online for the next two weeks, reminding students to look at PowerSchool to see their schedules. Music classes and BVRFit are not in PowerSchool so we told students to go to their music Canvas page which shows when they have class each day. Winter activities started today; that information is now in PowerSchool.
The 6th grade Community Actions Leaders (CALs) are meeting Thursday online with Ms. Wildes at 10:45 a.m. (Any 6th grade CAL who has music at that time will attend the next CALs meeting.)
Gabe Cohen '25, Student Council President, encouraged all students to fill out the survey Student Council sent to them about the lunch menu at BVR. Student Council is meeting Friday at 10:20 a.m.
All Students of Color are invited to a drop-in meeting this Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences hosted by Mr. Christy and Ms. Smith.
The next BVR Leadership Institute is this Friday, November 13 from 8:20 to 9 a.m. Students were sent an email to sign up.
All Middle School students have been emailed the baseline ImPACT test. This test helps our school trainer in the event that a student suffers a concussion. The ImPACT baseline test results get compared to post-injury test results to help with concussion treatment. Students were instructed to take the test in a quiet environment (no phones, TV or music playing) and to answer everything to the best of their ability. This is not a test one can "fail", it is simply taking a baseline measurement of your brain function.
I spoke about the historic nature of the results of the presidential election, having a woman of color elected to be Vice President of the United States of America. I reiterated that I am so glad to be part of the BVR community where students can talk respectfully about their political views and listen to other perspectives.
The Middle School congratulated Ms. Smith who is celebrating her one year wedding anniversary today!
