"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." --- Winston Churchill.
This quote is one my favorite quotes by a true leader. Sir Winston Churchill faced incredible odds, unheard of challenges and chaos yet he was able to lead and inspire the British people like no other.
Your Escondido Chamber of Commerce (ECOC) has been busy this past week celebrating via our signature "ribbon cutting" celebrations as we welcomed the Grand Opening of the new digs of California Bank and Trust on Quince Street, as well as an official "ribbon cutting" ceremony for the new Springhill Suites on La Terraza Blvd. Both events were successful in celebrating these two new additions to our business community. Thanks to both Cal Bank & Trust and Springhill Suites for working with the Chamber, being active and involved members of the Chamber and contributing and adding to the positive changes of the business community of Escondido. And, of course a huge thank you to our Mayor Paul McNamara and the host of top-tier City staff in attendance who proudly represented the City at both events. We also want to thank our elected officials who were either at the events or had their representatives attend. That's support from:
- Senator Brian Jones
- Assemblywoman Marie Waldron
- Supervisor Kristin Gaspar
- Representative Duncan Hunter
We hope you've marked your calendars and are planning to join us tomorrow as we host our latest Business After 5 Mixer at Eagle Crest Golf Club. This is a great opportunity to meet new, like-minded business people, network with other business representatives and enjoy some food, drink....and win some prizes. You can sign up and register here.
The ECOC is closely monitoring the happenings in Sacramento as your elected representatives push through a slew of Bills with the intent of passing these on to our Governor for his signature and implementation January 1st. Stay tuned as we look to identify effects any of these changes can mean to your business.
I do want to single out one very key person who has contributed mightily to my transition to CEO here at the ECOC, and that's Chris Cochran our Director of Marketing and Development. This is not a new name to most of you here in Escondido but, I cannot over emphasize what he has meant to the ECOC and me over the last 90+ days. Thank you, Chris!
I want to sign off with one more Churchill quote: "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing after they've exhausted all other options."
Sincerely,
CEO

21st Annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament
Friday, September 27th!
Do you enjoy waking up early and joining friends, business associates, and community leaders for a nice relaxing round of golf? Now what if that round of golf just happened to take place on a Friday morning...to start the weekend? And what if that round of golf, on an early Friday morning, helped to support the kids and programs at the Escondido Police Athletic League?
That sounds like not only a great time, but a great way to support an awesome charity organization right here in the Escondido community. And you'll have the opportunity to do just on Friday, September 27
th
as the Escondido Chamber of Commerce holds their 21st
annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament at Eagle Crest Golf Club!
The day will start off with some great food, drinks, and a putting contest followed by the scramble-format tournament. That's where you'll be able to enjoy some interesting games and challenges throughout the course, followed by a fabulous lunch and awards ceremony. This event is made possible with the support of some wonderful local businesses such as
Gosch Ford, Escondido Disposal Inc., Harvest Hills, Glennie's Office Products, Erickson-Hall Construction, and more.

Staying Safe At Work
With Natural Gas
We take safety seriously and know you do, too. Natural gas is a clean, dependable natural resource but it can also be a safety hazard. Part of ensuring we deliver safe and reliable natural gas to your business is equipping you with the right information to help prevent incidents and keep customers and workers safe.
Keep employees safe by having company gas appliances inspected annually by a licensed professional,
and don't store anything near a gas appliance that might interfere with normal airflow. Also, never use
or store combustible and flammable items in the same room or near gas or heat-producing appliances.
Do you know how to recognize a gas pipeline leak? Natural gas is flammable and something as simple as
a spark can serve as an ignition source. Use your sense of sight, hearing and smell and any of the
following signs to alert you to the presence of a gas leak:
