Upcoming Dates

Seventh grade Pin Masses highlighted Christian Brothers School activities during September. Seventh graders on both campuses received school pins to mark their final year at CBS.  The Mothers' Coffee, the Father-Son Fishing Rodeo and the Middle School Girls' Retreat were also major events during the month.  We hope you enjoy reading about CBS, and please feel free to share the newsletter with others.
Seventh Graders Receive School Pins

Seventh grade girls share their excitement at their Pin Mass on the Canal Street campus.

Kurt Werling, a 1986 graduate of Christian Brothers School, was the speaker for the seventh grade girls' Pin Mass on the Canal Street campus. He is pictured with his daughter, Mary-Katherine (7D). Mary-Katherine had two brothers who also graduated from CBS, Kurt (2015) and Luke (2019).



Michael Lizano, Sr., at right, a 1984 alumnus, addressed students and parents at the seventh grade boys' Pin Mass on the City park campus. At left is mom Jeanne, and in the center is Grayson (7C). Grayson's brother Michael graduated this past June, and he has two sisters on the Canal Street campus, Ava (6J) and Sydnie (3V).

Falcon Drive Collects Food for Pantry

Fifth graders help moms load up food collected during the September Falcon Drive, an annual service project of the fifth graders on the City Park campus.




Gerard Adam (5B) and Evan Morgan (5R) helped deliver food items to the Sisters of the Holy Family for their food pantry. Their moms, Alissa Adam and Crystal Morgan, helped with the Falcon drive in September.

Brown Foundation Hosts Students
At Servce Learning Day Event

The Brown Foundation, which has provided service grants for Christian Brothers School Canal Street campus, hosted students at the Pontchartrain Center in September for a Service Learning Event. Students from the Canal Street campus attended.



Sophie Cusimano (2G), Amelia Denton (2C) and Grayson Cheramie (2C) pet a duckling at the Brown Service Learning Event.


Thomas McCardle (2G) and Grayson Cheramie (2C) wear goggles to simulate what one's vision would be like if drinking alcohol or using drugs. Students from Mt. Carmel hosted the station.







Allie Marino (KC), Caroline Crisler (KB) and Madison Fortier (KA) pet a small alligator at the Brown Foundation Service Learning Event.




Noah McMillan (KC) participates in a demonstration with a firefighter on the use of a fire extinguisher, which was connected to an electronic board to simulate what it was like to use a real one.


Middle School Girls' Have Day-Long
Retreat at Rosaryville Across the Lake

Middle school girls from the Canal Street campus had a day-long retreat at Rosaryville. Here, the seventh graders, Class of 2020, show off a little spirit.



Enjoying the beautiful grounds of Rosaryville were Kennedy Boutte (7W), Nevada Charity (7D), Gianna Beaucoudray (7W), Kaylie Carimi (7D), Lily Bruneau (7W), Danie Hamilton (7D) and Mary Le (7W).

Students Have 'Landscape' Elective

Students prepare beds for planting vegetable seeds in the Learning Landscape on the City Park campus. About 20 students participate in the elective course, moderated by fifth grade homeroom teacher Craig Radetich. Students work on upkeep of the landscape, maintain the compost, test and record soil data and other activities.
Falcon Swimmers Prepare for Meet

Falcon swimmers have been participating in various meets to get ready for the New Orleans Metro Middle School swim meet.

Fathers, Sons Gather for Annual Rodeo

The annual Father-Son Fishing Rodeo, sponsored by the Christian Brothers Foundation, is always a popular event with nearly every student and dad or other relative attending at Our Lady of the Gulf community center on the beach in Bay St. Louis.



Among the dads attending the father-son event in September were Scott Pays, Brady Perniciaro and Brandon Grandbouche.

Enjoying the afternoon gulf breezes at the father-son fishing rodeo were Mark Leveque, Ricky Rowell (who chaired the event for the Christian Brothers Foundation), Vic Landry, Scott Sarrat and Mike Rodrigue.

Annual Mothers' Coffee Fills Center

Helping welcome all moms, especially new moms, to the Christian Brothers School family, the Christian Brothers Foundation hosts an annual Mothers' Coffee in the Cultural Center on the City Park campus. Katie Stromboe chaired the event, and she was assisted by Lesley Jouandot, Bridget Branch, Angél Junius, Amy Palmisano, Elise Voitier, Blair Ramelli, Charli Womac, Kim Smith, Anjanette Tournillion, Monica Iacono, Kelly Abel and Kimberly Lanosga.

Helping guests enjoy the Mothers' Coffee at the beginning of September were Blair Ramelli, Angel Junius, Lauri Aucoin and Katie Stromboe, who chaired the event for the sponsor, Christian Brothers Foundation.




Enjoying the Moms' Coffee were Ellie Fromherz, Jessica Becker, Michele Bravo and Theresa Truxillo.



Lindsay Goebel (7W) was the Canal Street campus student selected to address moms at the coffee, and she was fortunate to have grandmothers Ann Goebel and Janice Corb on hand to hear her since her mom was out of town.





Among those attending the Moms' Coffee were Lori Rowell, Kimberly Enger and Gina Nguyen.



Kim Lanosga, Emmily Patella and Melissa Samuels enjoy the annual Moms' Coffee.




Rolanda Martinez, Tracey Tarleton and Tara Rudloff chatted during the Moms' Coffee, which was sponsored by the Christian Brothers Foundation.
 



Bodi Harris (7C) represented students on the City Park campus in addressing moms at the Mothers' Coffee. Mom Jennifer Harris was there to hear her son talk.

Paddlers Enjoy Outing on Lake

Third Graders 'Plan' a City in JA

Long-time Junior Achievement volunteer Dave Capo, who first brought JA training to students at the City Park campus in 2003, worked with third graders on the Canal Street campus. Here students in 3R help "plan" a city in one of his classes.  Students in third throught seventh experience Junior Achievement one week each school year.

Studentsin 3R are in multiplication centers as they master all multiplication facts 0-12.  There are seven centers, and the four students in the forefront are racing the clock in the Mental Math App to solve  multiplication problems.  They are Julia Bode, Drew Stromboe, Sophia Bacigalupi, and Brennan Cook.

Mini-Stars Perform at Tulane Game
The Falcon Mini-Stars from the Canal Street campus performed a routine during a Tulane University football game.  The CBS Mini-Stars include Lorelei Barker (1H), Elizabeth Bartlett (2C), Caroline Bode (1S), Julia Bode (3R), Aubree Bordelon (3R), Elise Braud (2C), Skylar Bridges (4G), Olivia Cardwell (2G), Lucy Cole Carlin (1S), Sophie Cusimano (2G), Adelynn Dicharry (2G), Stella Kloor (1H), Lily Grace McKnight (2C), Eliza Palmisano (3V), Heidi Pfefferle (1S), Lucia Ragas (2C), Sloan Ricca (1R), Olivia Samuels (4Y), Maren Schaefer (2G), Emily Scullin (2C), Sophie Thomas (3V), Grace Trusheim (1H), Lola Voitier (2G), Samantha Wiltz (4G) and Cate Womac (2G). They are under the direction of Gina Iserman.

CBS Grads Named Merit Semifinalists

Of 22 seniors at Jesuit High School to be named National Merit Semifinalists, 11 are CBS graduates of the class of 2015. James E. Henican, Frederick J. Junius, Hayes T. Martin, Daniel J. McCabe, Luke S. Russo, Connor P. Sarrat, Alec M. Scheffler, Rayford B. Smith, Dominic J. Stoner, Darren Tsang and William C. Wells.
 
Nationwide, nearly 1.5 million students entered the competition, and the field was narrowed to only 16,452 semifinalists. Considering semifinalists alone, this number represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. From the elite group of semifinalists, 7,500 students will go on to win scholarships worth over $30 million.

Peters Selected to All-State Honor Choir

Kolbe Peters, a CBS graduate in the class of 2018 and a freshman at Brother Martin High School, was selected to the Louisiana American Choral Directors' Association (ACDA) Youth Mixed All-State Honor Choir.  In November, Peters and other members of the All-State Choir will perform at the 2019 Louisiana ACDA Fall Vocal Conference in New Orleans.
