Principal Message:
Earlier this week we had a virtual PTA meeting and a virtual ELAC meeting. Thank you for attending and your great questions! I began each by sharing some great things that have happened in the last couple of weeks. It’s so important to pause, reflect and celebrate the many things we’re grateful to enjoy. If you missed it, I shared that:
- Last week I was able to see many classrooms engage in their Second Step Homeroom lessons. Last week was about understanding harassment and this week was about taking a stand.
-
I also was able to pop into the gym and hear our great musicians perform. I know you’ll enjoy the video if you’re a music parent.
- Ms. De Alba invited our office team into Creative Writing to enjoy their performance of group skits which were so entertaining.
- There was a great math assessment turn out after school last week.
- In 7th Grade Science, they were hands on with identifying what makes a chemical reaction. In 7th Grade Art, they put together a beautiful gallery walk to enjoy and critique Fall semester work.
- This week, in Ms. Galgali’s new Monday lunch club, they worked on quotes for a weekly announcement about famous African Americans that will be part of our Black History Month celebration.
-
At the PTA meeting Borel 8th Grade Students Zoey Hakes and Lissette Aleta did a great job presenting a proposed revised dress code that I hope you take a look at below.
- Finally on Tuesday, we celebrated the reclassification of nine students who have officially earned their bilingual superpower status and got to choose a new elective.
Lunch is free, no deliveries please Please note that breakfast and lunch are free at school. We are not able to deliver food brought to school from parents or delivery services. We don’t have enough office staff to deliver food. Thanks for understanding.
Your thoughts Matter: California Healthy Kids Survey & Community Meetings
Students, staff and parents will take this survey that helps inform us on what’s working well and areas of improvements. Be on the lookout for more communications from your child’s social studies teacher. Thank you for taking time to take the survey. Also, next Wednesday, February 9th at 6:30 is the last District Community Listening Session. Thank you for sharing your stories. Your thoughts and ideas really matter!
Health & Safety:
Thanks for being in part of the Borel Pool Team. The Concentric team wanted me to pass along an important note: If your child experienced Covid over Winter Break it's important to let our office know because we would note the date so we can leave them out of the pool for three months to prevent a false positive.
COVID Testing is important. Please note that our Pool testing is on site weekly and free. Please spread the word to opt into Pool Testing. Register here. Access code: BOREL2021

Borel is a Certified Kindness School!
The Student Council is celebrating Valentine's Day by selling Kindness Grams at lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Each Valentine's Gram costs $1 and contains a card and treat which students can send to someone else at school. As a way to spread kindness to our community, proceeds will be used to make a donation to Samaritan House.
We are also hosting two upcoming Spirit Days:
Monday, 2/14—students will wear red and pink for Valentine's Day
Wednesday, 2/16—students will wear orange to symbolize kindness, acceptance, and inclusion
Additionally, we are planning to take part in the Great Kindness Challenge this spring, but we haven't finalized our plans.
