The Way - April 2022

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!”

Isaiah 43:19

From our President & CEO

Dear Friends,

BCM thrived through the pandemic, seizing every opportunity to refine, focus, and streamline our programs and service delivery. Last year, BCM kept 1,400 households from becoming homeless. That is more than 4,200 mothers, fathers, children – our neighbors – from flooding our already overcrowded community shelters or worse, unsheltered on our streets. BCM’s financial education program Budget for Life™ boasted a record-breaking year, with 40 households retiring $328,221 in debt and saving $93,190, coupled with BCM’s match. BCM’s supportive housing program, Foundation 3 – our largest investment per family at $40,000/year - remained full at 15 households who receive specialized weekly case management around their employment and education. Now, thanks to a generous donor, every child in Foundation 3 has a scholarship for quality-rated education and childcare, which not only advances the child’s well-being, but also allows the parents to work toward better employment and advanced education.

These programmatic achievements, while accelerated by the pandemic, were all in keeping with BCM’s strategic plan adopted in May 2020. In addition to our program strategy, BCM also committed to refreshing our brand, which we are proud to finally unveil to you, our community of friends and stakeholders, for the first time in this edition of The Way. See below for the new brand and story behind it.

Thank you all for supporting BCM’s mission through it all. We remain faithful in our calling and united in our mission.

With appreciation,

Keeva Kase

We are proud of this new brand and look forward to your support in getting it out there. We know change is hard and we acknowledge that we will not please everyone. However, as BCM Georgia grows and enhances our mission, we want to be recognized for our magnificent work rather than our logo and tagline. We believe that our new brand will unleash our potential as an agency so that we can serve more of our neighbors for generations. We hope you are as excited as we are for what is to come.

Welcome to the Team!

We are thrilled to announce the addition of three new team members: Temple McDaniel, Kenyatta Turner-Burck, and Frances Wargo. Click here to learn more about them.

From a Budget for Life™ Graduate

Dear BCM Georgia,

I have been a paraprofessional for nine years with Atlanta Public Schools while also owning and operating my own business on the side. I have never been able to truly balance and budget my money in a way that served me, so being accepted into Budget for Life™ was a true blessing.

Before classes started, I committed to myself, BCM Georgia, my family, and God that I would work hard and stay dedicated throughout the journey to financial literacy. The onboarding process was easy, and the sessions were informative, personable, and professional. The entire BCM Georgia team was a major blessing to both my household and my life. I genuinely appreciate BCM Georgia for offering this program for people who are willing to change, ready to unlearn past habits, and learn healthy money management habits. I can now humbly say that I am 100% debt-free, I am able to comfortably save and spend where needed, and I now feel confident to step into a new season of my life for my family and me.

Thank you all again and again for making this happen!!

Amelia

The United Way of Greater Atlanta recently awarded BCM Georgia a fourth round of Emergency Rental Assistance funding in the amount of $1.8M, bringing total funding through this partnership to $6.7M since August 2020. BCM Georgia is proud to continue partnering with the United Way of Greater Atlanta and the City of Atlanta to provide client-centered assistance. Through this partnership, we have kept more than 1,400 households in their homes and look forward to assisting many more under this new funding award.

35 Years of Serving our Communities Together

On May 26, 1987, Buckhead Christian Community Ministry (BCCM) launched with the support of a handful of area churches. 35 years later, BCM Georgia is preparing to celebrate our birthday with a special fundraising drive. Please be on the lookout for communication from our team about ways you can give in celebration of 35 years of serving our community together.
