MEET THE NEW DIRECTOR
The Alpha Park Public Library Board of Trustees and staff are pleased to announce that Melissa Sierra started Monday, November 25, as the new director. Melissa has a broad range of experience in public library programming, community outreach, and team leadership. She comes to us from the Memphis Public Library, where she worked at multiple branches, including a year as the Children’s Librarian at the Raleigh Branch and a year as the Program Team Manager.
Prior to Memphis, Melissa spent five years at the Austin Public Library, where she worked in various capacities, including time as an Outreach/Program Specialist with veteran services. In 2015, she was awarded the Service to Youth Award from the City of Austin.
Melissa’s diverse background also includes four years of active military service and time working for Apple Inc. and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. She attended Illinois State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and went on to attend Northern Illinois University where she received a master’s in Cultural Anthropology. In her spare time, she can be found reading and taking walks with her husband, Dan, and her beloved Great Pyrenees.
