Wharf Survey

The Wharf Revitalization Survey was available from October 3rd through November 7th and we received over 460 responses! 

Highlights from the survey: 

Top reasons for visiting the Wharf:
  • Boston Pizza
  • Farmers' Market
  • Walking
  • Shipyards
  • RibFest 
33% of people said they would likely visit the Wharf between November and April if more businesses were open.  

73% of people that responded to the survey said they primarily travel by car to visit the Wharf. 

The most repeated suggestions for improving the Wharf included:
  • a greater number and variety of shops and restaurants
  • more events and activities to do year-round
  • enhancing the gardens and landscaping 
Overall we received almost 1300 specific suggestions and ideas!

Who is A.P. Cockburn? 


A.P. Cockburn Square at the Muskoka Wharf is named after one of the community's most significant citizens, Alexander Peter Cockburn. Cockburn (pronounced "Co-burn") played an impo rtant role in the development of Gravenhurst and Muskoka  through his many achievements in transportation, settlement, commerce, governance, and tourism. 

The re-naming of the square took place in June 2016 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the launch of Cockburn's first steamship, the Wenonah.

Project Background

The Town of Gravenhurst is leading an eight-month project to develop a plan to outline potential goals and strategic actions to revitalize the Muskoka Wharf.
