Follow Up on Elementary Schedules
KEA leadership met with KSD on Monday. KEA presented a schedule that met all the state guidelines, followed the recommendations of the Back to School Task Force, and was similar to the schedule that was adopted by the School Board. KSD leadership notified KEA today, that they are having conversation within district teams, and are open to the model that KEA presented. If accepted, all elementary schools will begin between 8:30 and 9:00 am, and all synchronous learning would be completed between 11:45 and 12:15 respectively. Asynchronous learning, or independent work, would begin after lunch for students. At that time, teachers would have planning and office hours in the afternoon. We are very appreciative that KSD was willing to partner with KEA to improve the online learning experience.

Inventory and Distribution Days
Inventory Days needed to have been completed on the 28th or 31st of August. So, if you participated on one of those days, you should see 7.5 hours reflected in your September paycheck. KEA is hearing reports that some principals are "banking" hours from the Inventory Days to be completed at a later date. KEA members don't "bank hours." If we did, we would work more than 7.5 hours on some days, and then "bank" hours for a later date. So, if you participated, you get 7.5 hours of credit. The next day is Distribution Day. You will need to work 7.5 hours to earn credit for that day. Those 7.5 hours may be broken up into multiple days. However, the Distribution Day does not happen on Wednesday, September 23, because that is a teacher-directed Wednesday. So, that date will need to be changed if that is when your principal designated the Distribution Day.

KSD is still working on a plan for guest teachers when educators need to be absent. In the meantime, please record absences into AESOP with a link to your Canvas page. Please let your principal know so that they can direct families to your Canvas page where assignments can be worked on independently. Also, if you were not able to conduct classes because your power was out due to the fires, those absences do not need to be recorded. You will not be deducted any type of leave for those days.
Thank you for all of the work that you are putting in; I know that it has been difficult. Email Christie Padilla if you have any questions or concerns.
