2020 DERA Request for Applications
EPA anticipates awarding approximately $44 million in competitive grant funding under the Diesel Emissions Reductions Act (DERA) National Grants Program. The program is soliciting applications nationwide for projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions and exposure, particularly from fleets operating in areas designated by the Administrator as poor air quality areas.Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, Feb. 26th by 11:59pm.
FY2020 Advanced Vehicle Tech Research Funding Opportunity
The U.S. Dept of Energy's Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) has released a notice of intent to issue a "Fiscal Year 2020 Advanced Vehicle Technologies Research FOA" that will support the growth of advanced vehicle technologies to strengthen national security, economic growth and increase the affordability of transportation for Americans. Potential project topics may include:
  • Energy Efficient Mobility Systems (EEMS)
  • Gaseous Fuels Technology Demonstration Projects
  • Alt Fuel Proof-of-Concept in New Communities and Fleets Projects

Transportation Demand Management
Transportation demand management (TDM) aims to redistribute and reduce demand on existing transportation infrastructure by utilizing multiple strategies that enhance mobility. Some strategies under that goal include increasing dependency on mass transit systems, building bicycle-available pathways, and ensuring bike-friendly storage areas.
Transportation Energy Data Book (TEDB) Update
Petroleum exports were 7.59 million barrels/day in 2018. Exports include crude oil and petroleum products, with each reaching all-time highs in 2018. An increase in U.S. crude oil production combined with the lifting of a crude oil export ban were likely contributors to the export increase.
US Gain to purchase RNG from Brightmark Energy
U.S. Gain announced earlier this month it has reached an agreement to purchase dairy-based renewable natural gas (RNG) from Brightmark Energy, which has announced its investment in bio-gas projects at dairy farms in Wisconsin, Washington and New York.
Kansas City, MO to eliminate transit fares
Kansas City, MO is a step closer to eliminating transit fares, following the city council unanimously approving a transit priority policy  ordinance . It contains a provision instructing the city manager to include a funding request in the next fiscal year budget to make fixed-route public transportation free within the city.

Way2Go CLT is now ShareTheRide NC
Starting January 1st, Way2Go CLT will transition to ShareTheRide NC. Users will be able to log in and earn rewards for alternative commutes; however, it will be on a new platform and app. All data, trips logged and account information will be switched over automatically to the new system.  Download the new app, STRNC for Apple and STRNC for Android , by January 1, 2020 to make the transition.
NC EV License Plate
Plug-In NC  is working to increase awareness and support of electric vehicles in our state with a special EV license plate (shown right). For the license plate to be considered by the DMV and General Assembly, they need 500 paid in advance applications by  February 1, 2020 . If you would like the standard special plate, it will cost only $10, and for an additional $30, your message can be personalized. All applicants will be refunded in full if the 500 minimum is not achieved, so don't wait!
