From the desk of our S.T.E.A.M. Lab Students in Ms. Shelly's STEAM class put on their thinking caps last week so they could engineer a solution to our Sukkot problem. They needed to build a sukkah. The younger grades had to work together as a team to engineer one large sukkah out of large recycled materials. The older students worked in pairs to engineer one sukkah with three walls. They practiced their communication skills as they created blueprints and attempted to execute their plans. Some kids got their sukkah to work and others did not, teaching them about the perseverance it takes to become an engineer who must solve difficult problems, like Rosie in  Rosie Revere, Engineer by Adrea Beaty.   Sukkah in the Forest Mrs. Pollak's 7th and 8th grade Chumash class decided to switch gears and focus on the laws in the Torah regarding the Holiday of Sukkot. The students studied what is considered a kosher Sukkah and what they could use based on their surroundings outside, in nature, to create their own Sukkah shelter and enjoy the Chag.

Looooong Chain Students in Morah Miriam's 4th grade Hebrew class had fun making a beautiful long chain decoration for the school's sukkah. On each ring they wrote in Hebrew what they love so much about the holiday! BIMA BIMA (Beren Innovation Made Accessible) students proudly completed some of their 3-dimensional designs. Liel Vaknin was inspired by nature and designed a fern mezuzah case with butterflies and Jordie Yoshor designed a Beren Stars mezuzah case.

Petting Zoo Early childhood and lower school students had a special treat this week in the spirit of Chol Hamoed Sukkot! Marsha’s Petting Zoo came to visit students in ECE15 through 5th grade. The students had a great time petting and feeding a variety of animals including a deer, a bunny, a llama, a piglet, and goats. Shaking Styles Rabbi Ouzzan’s class learned how to shake the Lulav and Etrog in both Ashkenazi and Sephardi style! The four species represent the four fundamental parts of the body that are serving Hashem in unison!

Hashem is Everywhere Morah Aviva's ECE4 class had the opportunity to observe a real lulav and etrog and then everyone made a bracha and took turns shaking the lulav up, down, and all around to acknowledge that Hashem is everywhere! University Visits Last week, RMBA was pleased to host admissions representatives from Northeastern University and University of Maryland, who came to recruit juniors and seniors. Students asked great questions and received important advice about the application process.

Moadim l'Simcha 3rd grade enjoyed celebrating a Simchat Bet Hashoeva (a special celebration during Sukkot) with a bracha and dance party. Connecting Ori Friedmann's 6th grade Hebrew class enjoyed a crafts project building a connection board connecting all the students in the class.

Toy Art Kindergarten artists practiced drawing and painting toy still-lives from observation. Students had fun and were excited to see the surprise set-ups awaiting them when they entered the art room. Pinkout High School students participated in a worldwide annual campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness this week in an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer though education on symptoms and treatment. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month the students raised funds via selling t-shirts which they all wore in unity. The funds are being donated to charity.

The  Week at a Glance   is a snapshot, but does not reflect any changes made after that date.  Middle School Volleyball  The Middle School volleyball team will end their season with a game at Veritas  on October 17.   High School Volleyball The High School Girls will end their season with a home game vs. Cypress Covenant on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:00.  Basketball Practices All teams will practice on Wednesday, October 23. All 5th-8th grade boys and 6th-8th grade girls will practice from 5:30-6:30 and HS boys and girls will practice from 6:30-8:00. Please check the calendar for all other dates and times.
