I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Expansion Project
Upcoming Traffic Shifts on South Military Highway near the I-64 overpass
and I-64W near the High Rise Bridge
South Military Highway at the I-64 Overpass
As the I-64 bridge widening activities progress, motorists traveling on South Military Highway near the
I-64 overpass will experience a minor traffic shift beginning this week. Traffic will be shifted away from the median towards the outside of the roadway to allow for construction crews to continue widening activities of the I-64 overpass.

This new traffic pattern will begin on the following dates:

  • Northbound - 5 a.m. Friday, October 18
  • Southbound - 7 a.m. Saturday, October 19

To prepare for this traffic shift, motorists should expect slow rolls and stoppages up to 20 minutes while construction crews move barriers and configure the new traffic shift during the following times:

  • Northbound - Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Southbound - Friday, October 18 at 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Upcoming traffic shift on I-64 westbound near the High Rise Bridge
Beginning Monday, October 21 at 5 a.m., w estbound (towards Virginia Beach) traffic on I-64 between the foot of the High Rise Bridge and the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass will be shifted towards the center lanes on to new pavement. This traffic shift will allow crews to work on the construction of the new high rise bridge.

All schedules are dependent on weather and unexpected delays.
