A Message from CAYEN Co-Vice President

The COVID-19 pandemic has unexpectedly altered all of our lives and forcedus into unexpected situations, but we want you to know the CAYEN board is still here for you. We are actively searching for ways to help our community and fellow Transitional Age Youth (TAY) during this difficult time. We've been on video meetings every week for the past month working on recommendations to legislators as well as planning our own programming for later this year. We understand that TAY, especially those who may be in college, living on their own for the first time, recently started a new job and then lost that job due to the pandemic, are particularly vulnerable during this time. In our recommendations we have asked policy makers to provide vital resources and supports for TAY, including better access to mental health care, unemployment services, housing, and the release of juvenile justice detainees in facilities where COVID-19 can easily run rampant.

In these uncertain times, CAYEN is still very much working towards our vision of a community in which TAY in need of mental health services have access to resources and supports so they can lead self-fulfilling lives and be contributing members of society. Every day we are realigning ourselves to encompass the new demands caused by the pandemic, and we understand that you are too. Know that you are not alone in your anxieties over this precarious situation. It's okay to not be okay during this time. We stand beside you, we know your same dis-ease, but we also know that our minds are resilient. We will make it through these struggles together. #AloneTogether

Yours in community,

AJ Aguliar
