TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
A DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT by Rhonda Williams

With the start of each new year I often ask this question, “Well God I wonder what you have instore for this year?” Usually I approach Him with expectant thoughts of “good things” for the coming year. This past year was different for me; I was having health issues with my heart, consequently, for me, the year did not get off to a good start. I found myself pondering the coming tomorrows with uncertainty and, yes, disappointment.

Little did I know at this same time God was preparing my heart for another season of uncertainty filled with disappointment; COVID-19, something we are ALL living through and will not be forgetting soon.

Ruth Graham said this in one of her books: “Growing an unshakable trust in God as you face your tomorrows is not about self-improvement or mastering your circumstances, but about God—who He is, what He does, and how we can trust Him.”

This really hit home with me because she was right. It’s not about me, it’s all about God! When I stop and reflect on who God is, what he does, and how I can trust Him, my focus is redirected upon God and His Son Jesus. This redirected focus opens my mind and heart to receive the peace He offers, experience the joy of my salvation, and grow in unshakable faith. God lifts my spirit of heaviness and clothes me with the garment of praise (Isaiah 61:3). Our loving Savior desires the same for all His children—and He offers a clear pathway if we choose to follow.

Jesus spoke these words in Matthew 11:28-30, Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” The implication is that if we yoke ourselves to the Savior, we have Him to labor with us at our sides. The spiritual yoke Jesus offers is peace and a restful spirit. Yoke yourself to Jesus—He is waiting for you to give Him your tomorrows.

Each day prepare your mind and heart to receive everything God has for you. Focus on His goodness, His faithfulness, His promises, His provision and never forget that God knows the future!

God uses these times of uncertainty to strengthen our faith, refine our hope, and settle our hearts into a place of rest and trust. Stay close to the Lord in prayer. Read His Word and allow Him to guide you.

Throw a few “praise breaks” into your day. Praise Him in-spite of how you feel or whatever has your attention. Praise is an instant problem solver; doubt, worry and fear fade with the renewed hope and peace that takes place in our worship and praise with our Lord and Savior Jesus. Don’t miss His wonderful blessings.

We find our refuge in God, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble” Psalm 46:1. Run to God—trusting God is always the best choice for our lives! “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things…” Matthew 6:34
