This Sunday in Worship from Pastor Darren:
We continue our walk through “The Singing Garden” this Sunday with Psalm 27, a song of personal praise and confidence. Sunday evening we will gather again in the parking lot for vespers. I invite you to make it a personal goal to read one psalm a day through September and October. Open your heart and receive God’s assurance through the psalms.

North Members Help Public Get
Registered to Vote
We are doing voter registration through our outreach ministries. At every North Church Farmers Market and at the weekday Bread and Bowl, North members have been registering new voters, updating voters’ addresses, and distributing information about early voting sites, mail-in voting, and election day poll sites. If you know someone who isn't registered to vote, please let them know that they can drop by North Church at one of these times to get registered quickly and easily. Special thanks to Nancy Howe, Alan Archibald, Jill Lyday and Phil Whistler for their efforts.

How About Joining
Our A-V Team?
Would you be interested in helping with the audio-video on Sunday mornings? For the time being we are only offering the 11 a.m. service as a live stream but we would like to expand the number of people who know how to operate the system. John Hague and Dick Luchtman will show you how everything works. We gather at 10 a.m. each Sunday and are done by noon.
We are looking for folks who are willing to be a back-up person as well as serve on a rotating schedule. You can learn to do either audio or video or both. If you are interested or want more information contact Pastor Darren or John Hague.

Closed Captioning
Of Our Videos
Is Available
Just FYI: After our worship service is live streamed each Sunday, YouTube applies closed captioning to the video to assist those whom that would benefit. How long this takes depends on the length of the video and some other factors, but the subtitles usually appear by Monday. Please pass this information along to anyone who uses closed captioning. To start the subtitles, just click on the small "CC" box at the bottom right of the video screen.

Parking Lot Vespers Continue This Sunday at 6 p.m.
This Sunday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. is the second of three Sunday evening vespers service to be held in our parking lot in September.
Vespers is an evening service of prayers and readings that lasts about 30 minutes. These services do not include congregational singing.
Please enter the church parking lot from 39th Street to allow for better traffic flow in the north and northwest parking lots and easy bulletin distribution. Then please follow the directions of the parking lot attendants and park in every other space. You can sit in your car or bring a lawn chair and sit in front of your parking space. As always, please wear a mask.
The services are broadcast to a limited area via car radios set to 1610 AM.
We will collect food for the Mid-North food pantry at our two remaining vespers services. Bring a canned good or box of food and we will have a bin in the parking lot for you to drop off your donations.

School 43 Sends
A Big Thank You
For the Uniforms
The School 43 Team wants to thank members of our congregation for their many generous donations of school uniform items and monetary gifts for School 43. The following items were received: 90 pairs of pants, 13 jumpers and skirts, 10 belts, 301 pairs of underwear, 136 pairs of socks and 145 shirts. We also want to give a special thank you to Pastor Darren for his willingness to receive these donations at his home and then deliver them to church each day. After Pastor Darren said a blessing over the uniforms they were delivered to School 43 last Thursday. The school's social worker, secretary, and parent and community liaison met us to receive the uniforms. They were surprised at the number of items considering our drive couldn't be conducted in the normal way this year. They were very grateful for the continued support and care the church provides for the neighborhood children at School 43. They are hoping to return in-person to the building sometime in October. Again, a big thank you to all!
In the top photo (left to right), Leah Richmond-Jones, Pastor Darren and Phyllis Groth pose by the piles of clothes North members donated to the students of James Whitcomb Riley School 43. In the photo below it, staff members of School 43 accept North's donations.

Stewardship
True North: Lasting Connections
The Stewardship Team is preparing for North's annual Stewardship campaign, "True North: Lasting Connections." Would you share your story of how practicing the discipline of stewardship has strengthened your faith and connections with others, or how the steady compass and connections of North Church are impacting lives? Please email them to Robin Reagan.
You have been faithful and generous stewards during this difficult year. As you prayerfully consider the coming year, please know that your pledge is much more than a donation. A donation is like giving spare change; it's not always something we’re deeply connected to. A pledge, however, is a promise to North Church and a spiritual discipline that complements praying, volunteering, and sharing your talents. When you enjoy the programs and ministries at North Church, when you feel our lasting connections despite COVID-19, or when you see the impact of our work around the world, be proud and know that your pledge made it happen.
Fast facts on generosity: Did you know that there is a genetic link to having a generous disposition? Did you know that Indiana universities are at the forefront of research on generosity? Thanks to Hoosier scholars we are continually learning and expanding the field of knowledge. At the University of Notre Dame, the Generosity Initiative was created in 2009 to advance and communicate research on the roots of generosity and to provide grants for researchers around the world. Here in Indianapolis, the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI was the first school dedicated in 2012 solely to the study and teaching of philanthropy.
We can be proud of Hoosier leadership in philanthropy. Your pledge of support to our North Church community is another much appreciated example of leadership in giving.
