Advent is nearly here!
The Church's year begins anew at sundown on Saturday, and we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent the following morning. You will note some liturgical changes this Sunday:
- We will pray the Great Litany in procession. The Great Litany was the first liturgical rite that Archbishop Thomas Cramner of Canterbury set in English, drawing from ancient litanies of England, the Christian East, and even Martin Luther. Click here to read more.
- We use violet vestments during Advent, the same color used during Lent.
- You'll see a lovely Advent Wreath close to the pulpit in the nave.
- The hymn Gloria in excelsis ("Glory be to God on high") is omitted during Advent.
- During the entire Christmas cycle (Advent through Candlemas on February 2):
- We will use the older form of the Confession of Sin. You can find it here. This may be the most noticeable change to many people as the newer version comes naturally; you're going to have to look at the leaflet!
- The Mass setting will be an adaptation of the Hurd plainsong setting in English (don't worry if that's Greek to you - you will recognize it from last year!).
- We will use Eucharistic Prayer B (in Rite I language) as it has an emphasis on the Incarnation.
- The Marian hymn after the service changes to the Alma Redemptoris Mater (Mother of Christ). You can find it here.
Please be sure to read all the way through this newsletter. At the end, you'll find the Mass times for Christmas!

“Eucharist” means “thanksgiving.” What better way to offer our thanks to God than by our participation in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?
Mass on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28, 2019) will be at 10:00 a.m. in St. George's Chapel. We will also celebrate the feast on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.

The Rorate Mass is a votive Mass during Advent in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is only illuminated by candlelight. The themes of this liturgy are particularly focused on hope and the power of God to meet us in the midst of our suffering, pain and grief. After Mass, all are invited to watch
The Nativity Story
using the projector in the parish hall. Feel free to bring your favorite snack or beverage!
