Happy Holidays from Austin Voices!
Helping Families Have a Merry Christmas!
For families who find themselves in crisis, or just unable to make their budget stretch to put gifts under the tree, we salute the many agencies, faith-based groups and individuals who give back during the Christmas season. We have had the privilege of partnering with the Texas State Guard over the past two years, who gave out thousands of toys to children at Burnet and Dobie Middle Schools. Celebration Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church provided hundreds of turkey dinners with all the trimmings. The Austin Police Department, through Blue Santa, provided food and gifts for 500 families through our Family Resource Centers. These are just a few examples, along with a number of individuals who have contributed gift cards and  written checks to support our neediest families. These Christmas heroes helped us make the season brighter for over 3,500 AISD families. THANK YOU, and have a blessed and peaceful holiday season.
Watch the Equity Virtual Town Hall Meeting
Austin Voices sponsored an amazing conversation on December 12 around the theme "Equity is a Verb." The event was streamed on Facebook Live and is available to view on the Austin Voices for Education and Youth Facebook page. You can also read the transcript by clicking here.
Our panel included Jitu Brown (Founder and Director of Journey for Justice Alliance), Dr. Stephanie Hawley (Chief Equity Officer-AISD) and Jose Carrasco (AVEY FRC Director/Community School Coordinator at Dobie Middle School).
