HOIST SAFETY & SIDE PULL DETECTION WITH TILT SENSOR
Side pulling is one of the most common and most dangerous mistakes made with overhead cranes.
A hoist side pull occurs whenever the center of gravity of a load is not located directly under the crane hoist.
Side pulling a hoist can result in:
Damage to the hoist
Injury to personnel
Damage to nearby equipment
Properly equipping a hoist with a Laser-View Technologies DIS tilt sensor can add another layer of accident prevention. A two axis MEMS based tilt sensor can be mounted on a plated and clamped to the dead end of the wire rope near the hoist frame. Detection of potential side pull conditions can then be tied into hoist controls to not permit a lift under this condition.
