Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisti, realized a lifelong dream in 1984 when they bought the land that would become Tua Rita. They started bottling in 1992 and were immediately lavished with critical praise from Robert Parker.

2017 Tua Rita "Giusto di Notri" Rosso

It is a special red that allows you to pinpoint what each varietal contributes to the final blend. That is exactly what you have in this exquisite double 96-point Super Tuscan.
The Cabernet dominated 2017 Giusto di Notri is a study in contrast that is captured by Wine Advocate, who calls this 25th Anniversary bottling "chiseled, sharp and focused" with "beautiful plushness." The flavors continue down that road with precise ripe dark fruits, a punch of limestone minerality and a bit of toasty oak on the long, elegant finish. This wine has all the hallmarks of a great Super Tuscan and of premium Bordeaux.
Awarding 96 points, and quoting a two decade long drinking window, Wine Advocate writes...
"The 2017 Giusto di Notri is a special 25th anniversary bottling that is chiseled, sharp and focused. The small part of Merlot gives it some added sweetness (the percentage of Merlot was slightly reduced in this vintage), the touch of Cabernet Franc contributes the power, freshness and dark fruit, and along with a starring role of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has lots of beautiful plushness restrained by a tight, disciplined linearity. This vintage saw less time in barrique (about 16 months) but the barrels had more toasting. There is a lasting mineral note of chalk or limestone that frames the dark and opulence quality of fruit at its core. The bouquet is stunning. The wine treads lightly in the palate, with a very elegant and nuanced approach. It really is another gorgeous wine from Tua Rita that shows the profound skill of this winemaking team even when faced with a hot vintage such as this. A blend of 50% Sangiovese along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, the 2017 "Rosso dei Notri" is silky, soft and full of dark fruit flavors. The double 91-point reviews from Wine Advocate and James Suckling really nail what this wine is all about, and the $15.99 price makes it a slam-dunk bargain...
"The 2017 Rosso dei Notri is afforded a careful pre-selection of grapes from the most important vines, and the harvest was particularly limited and selective in this hot vintage. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Sangiovese sees a brief fermentation process and just a touch of barrique to retain the signature elements of these grapes. In the end, this Rosso dei Notri emerges as soft and dark but uncomplicated. The fruit is ripe and succulent, all very reminiscent of the 2009 vintage. This longtime Vin Chicago favorite is 100% Sangiovese and it highlights so much of what we love about this noble grape. A study in polished elegance, the wine is so bright and fresh, you would think you are biting right into fresh fruit!
Offering an explosion of flavors in a delicate and very food-friendly package, this exemplifies the more elegant side of Tuscany. We love it, and so do the critics...
"A lean and light Sangiovese, the 2017 Perlato del Bosco has a great tonic freshness to it. Yields of this fruit were down by 40% in this hot vintage, an early harvest was scheduled in order to avoid any jammy notes. (The rest of the fruit that didn't pass the early selection at harvest went into some of the estates lower-tier wines, such as the Rosso dei Notri.) The result here is a fresh and crunchy red to match with a cheesy pasta such as cacio e pepe. Drink Date 2019 - 2026."
