Calvary / St. James Youth News
With a new year starting, a new decade beginning, you may hear phrases like; undo, redo, do over, second chance, try again, start over, new beginnings, just to name a few. Out of all of those, personally I like the phrase, New Beginnings.Welcome 2020! Some may say they were happy to say goodbye to the 20teens and welcome to the 2020s. This is the start of a brand-new decade, another new year and with these comes the start of New Beginnings. A new door is opening and all we need to do is step through.

By the end of the 2020s, a current fifth grader will step out of elementary school and into the world of middle school. They will see a lot of changes over the next ten years and we will watch them grow from being a 6th grader, to becoming a freshman in high school. We will watch them go through high school as a student to become a high school graduate. We will see them enter the work force and start making it on their own or watch them enter college and then witness them become a college graduate. For a parent, all of this forward motion will be filled with hard work, dedication, setting aside time to attend a large number of special events in the lives of our children and youth; plays, competitions, doctor visits, recitals, a huge number of late nights helping to complete projects and homework that are due the next day. This will include the creation of a partnership and participation of both parents, grandparents and the students. All of this will happen in the span of this brand-new decade called the 2020s.

RETREAT IN GREENSBORO

This is an annual event that meets in Greensboro, NC at the Embassy Suites. Last year, there were over 500 youth in attendance and we want to be part of that this year. The Word, building relationships, great food, a dance, music, games and more all wrapped up in one weekend. The dates are February 21 - 23 and the cost is $150 per person. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. We need to sign up quickly in order to participate in this event. Scholarship funding is available upon request, please see Mike.

PORT-A-PIT

FRIDAY, MARCH 6
11:00 AM -- 7:00 PM

This is a major fundraiser for the youth ministry as well and helps the ministry accomplish the goal of having a beach retreat and two mission trips. Tickets will be $10.00 each, with desserts available for a donation. The food is excellent, the fellowship is even greater. We will definitely need parent help in the morning, afternoon and evening to sell tickets, make desserts, deliveries, serve in the kitchen and with clean up. Please help make this a very successful fundraiser by jumping in, giving a hand with this event. We can't do it without you. .

YOUTH VALENTINE'S DINNER FUNDRAISER

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14 7:00 PM

We will be setting up and prepping for the dinner on Thursday the 13th and we can use youth and parent assistance on that evening. This is one of the largest fundraisers the youth ministry has for the year and because of that, all youth are asked to participate in this event.

Youth are asked to wear a white shirt, guys wear a tie, and dark pants or ladies may wear an appropriate length skirt/dress. Please plan to be at Calvary, dressed and ready to go, as soon as you can. High school students should arrive around 4:00.

Please invite your friends and family members to join us for this special event. Afterwards, we will need a good number of parents to help with clean up in the kitchen as well as the fellowship hall. Without the parents, this would not happen so please sign up and help the ministry reach it's goal. Thanks and we will see you on the 13th and 14th of February.
SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE DINNER FUNDRAISER
will be on Tuesday, February 25 at both St. James and Calvary Lutheran. The meal will start at 5:00 and go till 7:00 with pancakes, sausage and bacon offered! Invite your family and friends to join in the fun. We will also need parent assistance in the kitchen and for clean up for this fundraiser as well.
