AHS Students Earn Recognition for the Arts in AZ

WELL DONE to four AHS students who joined 37 of SUSD's Class of 2020 to receive the Arizona Department of Education (ADE)'s new State Seal of Arts Proficiency. The seal recognizes and celebrates graduating seniors' high levels of achievement in meeting the ADE's Arizona Arts Education Standards. The seal was established last year by the Arizona Legislature and signed into law by Governor Doug Ducey.  Students who receive the seal were selected based on their grade point averages throughout their high school career, consistently strong performances in their Arts education courses and a digital portfolio of their work.

AHS senior wins Valley Metro wrap design contest

(Valley Metro Photo of Kate Flores)
An Arcadia High School student will soon have her artwork portrayed across the Valley thanks to Valley Metro.

Arcadia senior Kate Flores edged out the competition with her "Oh the places you'll go with Valley Metro" design to take home Valley Metro's 20th annual Design a Transit Wrap contest, the company announced in a press release Tuesday.
Flores' design will be wrapped on a Valley Metro bus and light rail train for a year.

"I wanted to show off Phoenix and all the different places Valley Metro takes people," Flores said in the release. "I even put in Camelback Mountain because my high school overlooks it, and I wanted a little piece of me represented in the design."
Flores' design beat out more than 100 entries submitted by high school students across Maricopa County.
Staff Appreciation Week is May 4th - 8th

Teacher Appreciation Week is fast approaching, and we've been scratching our heads for a fun and socially distanced way to honor our Arcadia High School Teachers, Counselors, Nurses, and Support Staff who work directly with students - you know, the ones in the trenches with our kids right now, working overtime to continue to provide structure, emotional support, advice, laughs, commiseration, and of course LEARNING, every school day.   While we have plans to send e-treats with the remainder of our Teacher Appreciation budget, we are asking for your help to pull off a couple of surprises.

Questions & Answers

GRADUATION
High school principals, using feedback from our graduating seniors, are exploring ways to honor Scottsdale Unified School District seniors on May 21, 2020. Feedback we received from students favored of an in-person celebration in the summer if/when stay at home orders are lifted. We are continuing to plan for either or both of these options for our amazing seniors. The Governor's current "stay at home" order expires April 30, 2020, and we hope to have more guidance from his office after that time. - last updated 4/24/20 by SUSD

New & Free Arcadia Alumni Mentorship Program

Recent AHS grads have recruited a diverse group of alumni from various post-Arcadia phases of life to be what we all wish we'd had when we were in high school- someone who gets it, who has been there, who understands, and is willing to answer all the questions. This is an entirely free service provided by Arcadia High School alumni volunteers who are looking to help and support current AHS students at this time.
