This Week at Christ Church
Invite, Welcome, Connect Seminar
Saturday, October 26 from 9AM-3PM

Join us on Saturday, October 26 from 9-3 at the Church on the Hill to learn more about Invite, Welcome, Connect. This program was developed to help Episcopal Churches utilize tools to help Churches grow numerically and spiritually. Our facilitator, Mary M ac Gregor, from Houston and the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will spend the day showing us how to make Christ Church more "sticky" for people who visit us.  High school youth are invited to participate in this great leadership training opportunity, as well!  Lunch will be provided as will childcare if requested.

Mary spent her ministry on the Bishop's staff heading up Congregational Development. Since retiring, she has traveled the country meeting with Episcopal Churches to help them develop the skills to be more hospitable to visitors by training existing members in the areas of invitation, welcome, and connection. We had ten people attend this seminar at the Cathedral in June and afterwards, everyone agreed we should bring Mary here to introduce this to our parishioners.

You can register for the day, which includes lunch, here.

On All Saints Sunday, We Read the Names of the Faithfully Departed

We pray for all that have died, that they may have a place in God's eternal kingdom.  Please list the names of those you wish prayed for on November 3.

At the 8:00AM service we will read the names of those who have been buried at Christ Church since All Saints Day 2018.

At the 9:30AM service we will read the entire necrology (fancy name for this list) as a group. Each parishioner will be given a list which we will read at the same time. We call it "Pentecost" style.

At the 5:30PM Evensong we will read each name individually. This service is followed by a parish-wide dinner.

New Trier Township Food Pantry

On All Saints Sunday, we will also be collecting items and cash donations for the New Trier Township Food Pantry which serves those who are food insecure in New Trier Township.  We are focusing our November donation on the following items most needed by the Pantry at this time:
  • Paper Goods (Kleenex, Paper Towels, Toilet Paper)
  • Aluminum Foil, Plastic Wrap, and Baggies
  • Diapers (Smaller Sizes)
  • Baking Goods (Muffins, Cake Mixes, Brownies)
Please bring your items or donations to the Prevost Cloister following both services on Sunday, November 3.  Thank you for your generosity to our neighbors who are struggling!

An Evening with C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis, a Christian writer from the 1940's-60's, is a widely appreciated author on the subject of Christianity.  Though many of his books are over 70 years old, most are still in print.  Fifteen of us are studying his
Screwtape Letters Fridays at Holy Caffeine from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room.

David Payne portrays Lewis and captures the essence of the man and his path from atheism to Christianity in a fascinating show spanning the adult years of his life and featuring his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien.

A group of Christ Church parishioners is planning to attend the showing on Saturday, November 2 at 8PM at the Broadway Theatre downtown.  Come join us!!  Get your tickets on your own at broadwayinchicago.com and email [email protected] if you would like to get together for dinner as a group beforehand.

Our next large group meeting for all 8th graders in Confirmation is on Monday, October 28 from 6-7:30PM. We will explore one unique and important aspect of being Episcopalian: The Book of Common Prayer (BCP). We will hear from Christopher, play games, and do activities to learn about the BCP. Dinner will be provided. If you are a parent that can help serve dinner or contribute a dessert, please let us know. RSVP regrets only to [email protected] .
Opportunities to Serve
A Just Harvest - Saturday, October 26
We Need Cooks, Servers, & Shoppers

DID YOU KNOW that our Parish serves approximately 150-175 hungry patrons each month at A Just Harvest Community Kitchen in Rogers Park.  We'd love to have you join this ongoing ministry.

Questions? Contact Jenny Smith or Suzie Peregrine for more information and/or to volunteer.

Most volunteers leave the kitchen with the sense that they have personally gained more than they have given. Come see for yourself.
