Maritime Activity Notice - Fender Pile Driving to take place in the channel October 19-21 and November 2-4

As construction of the updated fender system advances, maritime traffic should anticipate an opening of the bascule High Rise Bridge and construction crews driving fender piles within the channel during the following times and dates:

  • Saturday, October 19 at 11 p.m. to Sunday, October 20 at 6 a.m.
  • Sunday, October 20 at 11 p.m. to Monday, October 21 at 4 a.m.

  • Saturday, November 2 at 11 p.m. to Sunday, November 3 at 6 a.m.
  • Sunday, November 3 at 11 p.m. to Sunday, November 4 at 4 a.m.

Continuous work in the Elizabeth River will include changes in channel layout, and removal and replacement of the existing fender system. Additional substructure changes include barge and crane mobilization, pile driving, pile cap construction, column construction, and cap construction. Superstructure work includes beam erection.
