The Community Excellence Awards recognize and celebrate UBCM members that exhibit excellence in meeting the purposes of local government, and demonstrate successful pathways for others to follow. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing welcomes input as it seeks to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the role and function of Alternate Electoral Area Directors within regional districts. The feedback opportunity is provided for regional district EA and municipal directors, alternate EA directors, CAOs  and staff  until January 31, 2020. 

The City of Pitt Meadows and Katzie First Nation have taken major steps forward in relationship building, and have made collaboration a cornerstone of their approaches to governance. Theirs is one of the stories featured in Pathways to Collaboration , a project to showcase the growing number of successful economic development collaborations and partnerships between First Nations and local governments in BC.

The federal Gas Tax fund in British Columbia provides communities with stable, predictable funding for capital infrastructure and capacity building projects. Since 2005, UBCM has transferred over $2.7 billion of federal funding to communities across BC that, in turn, have undertaken over 5,300 infrastructure and planning projects. A report on local government expenditures and outputs from the 2018 reporting year is now available.

Registration is now open for the  2020 LGLA Leadership Forum. The forum will explore themes of inclusive leadership using practical examples to help build skills around inclusivity. LGLA invites all local government and First Nations elected officials and senior administrators to join in two days of expert input, collegial discussion and networking on February 5-7, 2020 in Richmond. 

The next transfer of allocated funding from the federal Gas Tax Fund will be distributed to British Columbia local governments over the next 30 days. The Community Works Fund (CWF) is delivered twice annually to all local governments in BC to support local priorities. The current allocation will distribute more than $54.8 million in federal funding.
