GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS NEWS
ACTION ALERT: Tell Minnesota's Leaders to Pass a Budget on June 14!

The Minnesota legislature and governor have not reached agreement on a two-year budget for state-funded projects. If a budget agreement is not passed by June 30th, the state government will shut down. Although legislative leaders and Governor Walz have publicly stated they are not willing to force a shutdown over policy disagreements, state agencies – and thus contractors – have to start planning accordingly.

AGC has been in communication with the Department of Administration and MnDOT about their preparations and plans. MnDOT’s cutoff date for sending out notices to contractors is Wednesday, June 16th. Therefore, if the legislature does not pass a budget immediately when they come into special session on June 14th, highway contractors will receive a notice from MnDOT to start buttoning up projects due to financial uncertainty. Pausing construction projects requires significant planning including removing equipment, securing project areas, and creating safe traffic configurations, among other details — and a shutdown could cause major project delays. The 2011 shutdown resulted in $35 million in additional MnDOT costs.

The Dept. of Administration is still finalizing their communications plan for their projects.

AGC will continue to monitor the developments and inform members with important developments. Right now, the most important action you can take is to click below to contact legislative leaders using the populated message. This will take less than 1 minute.

Thank you for entering your information to send a message to your local legislators, the Governor, the Speaker of the House, the Senate Majority Leader, Transportation Chairs, and members of key working groups urging action to get a budget passed when the legislature returns on June 14th.
