Think of your first bike. Learning to ride and the freedom you felt as you could take off on your own without the assistance of a parent or caregiver. Children restricted to a wheelchair or those needing assistance will never experience this freedom of mobility.
Grampy's Charities and Save The Kid Fund
have partnered to provide these children with a specially designed cycle to fit their needs so they can ride. Each adaptive cycle has a positive impact not only on the child, but on their families and caregivers as they watch them experience some freedom while developing strength and stamina. Below are some examples of children in need:
There are many children waiting for the opportunity to receive an adaptive bike. Greilyn who is blind with Cerebral Palsy will receive a side-by-side model safe for her to ride with her siblings. The pedaling will develop her leg muscles and she can happily experience a respite with a childhood activity. And Ricky, with a feeding tube and who is Autistic. He is completely non-verbal and always on the go. He loved riding a bike during therapy but now no longer has access to a bike. Or Sophia, with low muscle tone, waiting for a foot pedal bike to develop strength in her legs. These children can benefit with your help!
