2021 Racing – LOSHRS Coastal Races Cancelled:

I know most of you who live in and around Lake Ontario were watching the weather this past weekend and lamenting the fact that this would have been an amazing Susan Hood Trophy race.  With clear weather and strong steady winds it would have made for a fantastic start to the 2021 Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Season. Unfortunately, the start of our racing season will again be delayed a few more weeks.

Due to current public health restrictions, we again had to make a hard decision to cancel  LOSHRS Coastal Races #2 & #3. With the Lake Ontario sailing season already shortened and other races being shuffled around, we were unable to find a weekend to reschedule. We look forward to continuing the Coastal Races along the north-western shore of Lake Ontario in 2022.

We have our fingers and toes crossed that all goes well and the province moves quickly into Phase 2 where the restrictions may ease enough to allow us to run the LO300/600. Registration remains open and we keep planning for the rest of the season that will allow us to race together on the water.

Here is the upcoming schedule:

The Lake Ontario 300/600 (LO300/600) remains scheduled for Saturday, July 10th
The Susan Hood Trophy Race (SHTR) remains scheduled for Friday July 30th
The Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing Series (LOSHRS) Race #1 remains scheduled for Sunday, August 01st

With all the changing schedules, we decided not to increase the registration fees as usual before the race, but rather will keep the fees at the “Early Bird Rates”.  It is really the only way we can show our appreciation to our racers this year.

Use the links on the LOOR website to sign yourself up for one or ALL the races. And please remember, if you are new to offshore racing and have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at  info@LOOR.ca  or contact your club LOOR Ambassador. You can find out who your club Ambassador is by going to our website - loor.ca. We'll help get you to the start line.

Please note that although the LOOR committee continues to plan for a full racing season, we cannot predict what restrictions will be in place. We have been planning for all scenarios and have several alternate plans in place. Please watch your inbox and LOOR social media. We will ensure that we communicate any modifications as soon as they are finalised.

Thank you for your patience.

Virtual Racing Recap - Susan Hood Online!

While the on-water Susan Hood Trophy Race has been re-scheduled until July 30th an on-line virtual race was hosted by our partners at SailOnline.org at the originally scheduled race-time, Friday June 4th, 2021. Eighty-three racers, including 15 Canadian, completed the course.

The Virtual SHTR saw international exposure with the top three finishers hailing from around the world: WRmirekd (Poland), nacr (Portugal) and rafa (Peru) in that order. Racing was led by a tight fleet with the top 10 boat finishing within1minute and 38 seconds of each other, and under 10.5 hours. Consistent wind strength and no Burlington hole made for a fast race!

The partnership will continue through the 2021 summer with concurrent on-water and online versions of the LO300 Challenge and the LOSHRS 100-miler races. Again, for these races the weather will be real-time and the courses will be the same for both on-water and virtual racing.
