COVID-19 & THE 2020-21 SEASON
RETURN TO HOCKEY UPDATES
GOVERNOR WHITMER ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER
THE ANNOUNCEMENT CAME TODAY! The Governor issued an Executive Order opening up certain businesses including ice rinks.

Now, despite the fact that KOHA staff along with Wings West rink management have been working throughout the pandemic to put plans and procedures in place for a Return to the Rinks, we are asking you to be patient.

Wings West is going to need the next day or so to go over the Executive Order and ensure that their re-open plan abides by any regulations set forth in the Order.
At that point, they will communicate to us the guidelines, policies and procedures for re-opening and we will share that with our membership.

It is also expected that in the next couple of days, our governing body, MAHA will put out an announcement regarding affiliates (like KOHA) and any regulations they might require. We expect that MAHA's announcement will also include the date after which Tier II (KWINGS) tryouts will be allowed to be held.

Once we have all of that information, we will be able to share our schedule to get kids back on the ice, including the dates for the KOHA development camps and clinics originally scheduled for the beginning of August. We feel strongly about giving our kids every opportunity to be successful at tryouts and evaluation skates - and we will still hold those opportunities.

So again, be patient. Everyone is so excited that hockey is back, and we want to ensure that all of the work we have done during our time away from the rink results in the safest and most enjoyable opportunity for all of our members.

We can't wait to SEE OUR KIDS BACK ON THE ICE!
Return to Rink changes
RETURN TO THE RINK
Once we receive feedback on the Executive Order from both Wings West and MAHA, we will be able to communicate a full list of procedures including any restrictions or limitations on parents and spectators in the building.

Click on the video to see just some of the changes you can expect.
When returning to the rink, what can I expect? (Remember: additional guidelines may be provided by our rink partners and/or MAHA.)
  • Entrances and exits for the building will be clearly marked.
  • Masks will be required in all areas of the building except (likely) while on the ice.
  • Entrances and exits to/from each rink surface will be clearly marked.
  • Social distancing must be observed - even when putting on skates.
  • Initially, players will need to get their gear on in their car - except skates and helmet - and arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled ice time.
  • Avoid gathering in common areas.
  • Avoid lingering once your player is finished.
  • Players will need to bring their own water bottles.
  • It is unlikely that KOHA will be able to loan equipment as we have historically done when players forget gear due to sanitation guidelines.
  • Any additional guidelines will be shared via email, and posted on our website and social sites.

TRYOUTS - REMINDER
Tryout registration is open (with dates TBA from MAHA in the coming days) - you'll need to first get your new USAH number for the 2020-21 season prior to registering with KOHA for tryouts. Our K-Wings coaches (Gold and Silver) have been announced and can be found here along with the tryouts registration.

House B Evaluation Skate registration is also open, and those evaluation skates will take place after tryouts are able to be held.
