The Seattle Education Association is the voice for educators standing with our students united to address the needs of our community and to transform our district into an anti-racist school system where every student thrives.
ANNOUNCEMENT FROM GOVERNOR INSLEE ON MASKING
This afternoon Governor Inslee announced the end of the state masking requirement in schools after March 21. The State Department of Health is set to release updated guidance for schools in early March. We are looking into what this means for Seattle Public Schools. We are meeting with King County public health officials this Friday to discuss the impact of the change in the state mask mandate and will provide an update as soon as we learn more.
As a member-driven organization, we need your input to inform our collective advocacy and priorities in the face of this change. Please complete this brief survey by Monday, February 21, 5:00 PM. As you take the survey, consider how those who are at higher risk from COVID (immunocompromised, living with elders, under-resourced communities of color, living with unvaccinated children, etc…) will be impacted.

The more member input we have, the stronger we are in our collective action and solidarity!

WA-Cares Long Term Care Insurance Program is Delayed

On January 27, Governor Inslee signed the bill to delay the Long Term Care Insurance program (WA Cares). The new law postponed the collection of premiums until July 2023 and refunds anyone who began paying premiums as a paycheck deduction starting January 1, 2022. The law also expanded partial benefits to those who pay in but do not fully meet the vesting requirement. To learn more about WA Cares, click here.
