SPECIAL RECOGNITION OF VETERANS’ DAY
Last Sunday
The HSCPC Men’s Club celebrated Veterans Day by preparing and serving a special pancake/sausage/bacon breakfast for Social Hour following the worship service.
|
|
With just a little help from the Deacons they put out a delicious array of everything belonging in a super breakfast. The Social Hall was filled with hungry members and friends, none of whom went away from the table hungry.
A huge THANK YOU to the Men’s Club members (and their helpers) for that delicious breakfast.
|
|
Men’s club members Art Ondich, Bob Atkisson, Roy Hamlin, and Len Finchum, with Carla Tinsley representing the Deacons.

AND NOW IT’S TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS
HOLIDAY MISSION PROJECTS
|
|
Special Thanksgiving Food Drive
While we collect donated food for the
HOUSE OF HOPE on an ongoing basis, we place special emphasis on this Mission Project as holiday time approaches. As you plan your holiday menus and shop for all those special holiday goodies, please include a few items for the
House of Hope to distribute to those in need. Those items especially associated with traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts will be particularly appreciated.
You can leave your donations at the Sanctuary door, or in the church office, and they will be taken to the House of Hope prior to Thanksgiving.
Deadline is Sunday, November 24.
|
|
Operation Care for Heroes
Once again this year we have the opportunity to participate in the
OPERATION CARE FOR HEROES program. For the next few weeks, mission committee members will be collecting items for this program.
Operation Care for Heroes is a 501© 3 nonprofit organization collecting donations and raising funds for postage to send packages to our soldiers overseas in war zones. Each box shipped to an APO in Afghanistan, for example, costs $18.45 and the group has shipped over 2,500 boxes since 2008.
Items requested are:
|
|
coffee (ground in a bag)
whole bean coffee, ground
individual bags chips/Doritos/Fritos
Nature Valley Granola Bars,
tuna in a bag
Towelettes
lip balm
|
|
Gatorade/protein powder
Gold fish crackers (individual packages)
individual bags nuts/dried fruit
individual bags of cookies/pretzels/crackers
beef jerky
handi/baby wipes
stick deodorant
|
|
A collection box will be available on the Sanctuary Porch on Sunday mornings. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, $18.45 (cost of shipping one package) is suggested. Checks should be made payable to HSCPC.
The deadline for donations is December 1
st
.

|
Christmas Cards for Troops Overseas
Christmas cards for you to sign will be available on the table on the porch of the Sanctuary. Along with the Care packages, these will be also be sent to our troops overseas. Notes from home expressing gratitude for their service are always appreciated by those who can’t be home for the holidays.

Four years ago,
Carla Tinsley and
Gail Shriver asked for permission to use the church Fellowship Hall and kitchen for a rather large family gathering for Thanksgiving dinner. They invited any church members and friends who might otherwise be spending the holiday alone to join them. This started what has become a Thanksgiving tradition at HSCPC. It has grown in attendance with each year and is always a wonderful day of feasting and fellowship.
So, once again this year,
Carla and
Gail are hosting Thanksgiving dinner in the Fellowship Hall. Carla and Gail will prepare the turkey and trimmings, pumpkin pie and pecan pie, and guests are asked to bring a dish to share. This will be an opportunity to share your favorite Thanksgiving dish and memories. The festivities will begin at
2:00 PM, Nov. 28. If you are planning on attending, you are most welcome to bring a guest.
On Sunday a reservation form will be included in the worship bulletin, and reservations must be made by November 21. Reservations will also be taken by phone in the church office, 772 546-5043.
|
|
And with the approach of Advent
IT’S SOON TIME TO DECORATE FOR CHRISTMAS
It is customary at HSCPC that we have the Sanctuary decorated for Christmas prior to the first Sunday of Advent, which is December 1
st
The decorating will be done following the Worship Service on November 24. All are invited to join in the fun of welcoming in the joyous Christmas Season by helping with the decorating activities. No need to sign up; just come and have fun.
|
|
Christmas Mission projects are still in the planning stage, and will be announced in detail within the next two weeks
|

UPDATE ON DONATIONS FOR
HURRICANE DORIAN DISASTER RELIEF
Kathy Oldham is handling the donations for hurricane Dorian disaster relief, and seeing that they are distributed as most needed.
Our donations are directed toward the
Hurricane Strong Relief Center at the Wellington Green Mall, a place where the displaced Bahamian people can “shop for free” for donated items such as water, canned and packaged food goods, cleaning supplies etc. The store manager hopes to keep the store
open until the end of the year, finishing off with a Christmas Toy Drive.
Donations are not only stocked in this “pop up store”, they are also shipped in large quantities to the Bahamas.
Six foot pallets are loaded with packaged, bubble wrapped goods, and 18 pallets are loaded on 40 foot containers and sent to Marsh Harbour. The cost of shipping per pallet is $200. The containers don’t get shipped until they are full!!”
Thus far the donations from HSCPC total $1290.00.
$500 was distributed previously, and another
$790 was given to Kathy last Sunday for distribution. She plans to use the remainder of our donation money to contribute to the Christmas Toy Drive by buying toys and sponsoring a pallet. As you can see from her report, she has already started.
|
|
This week Kathy reports as follows:
“
Monday, being Veterans Day and a school holiday, I grabbed Lilly and her friend Morgan and we went to Walmart and shopped for toys for the Bahamas Relief Toy Drive. As you can see from the pictures, we bought a variety.....Tonka Toys, Barbie & Baby Dolls, Make Up, Spider-Man and Minecraft. We covered boys & girls from 18 months to pre-teen!!”
|
|
While
HSCPC will no longer actively solicit donations toward hurricane Dorian relief after the end of October, any additional donations received through the end of the year will still be greatly appreciated. Donations can be placed in the offering plate on Sunday, or mailed directly to the church.

CHOIR PRACTICE IS UNDERWAY
Volunteers to join either or both of the HSPCP choirs,
THE REGULAR CHOIR or
THE BELL CHOIR, are always welcome
.
Bell choir practice is on
Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 PM.
Regular choir practice is on
Tuesday afternoons at 6:00 PM.
We are not looking for professional musicians. The love of music, and basic music knowledge are all that are needed to enjoy the fun and fellowship we experience in the HSCPC choirs, and to be part of the music ministry in our church.
If you are interested in either choir, please see Music Director, Dr. Anita Caswell after a church service.

|
HSCPC Men’s Club
All men who attend worship services at HSCPC
are invited to join the
HSCPC Men’s Club. The men meet monthly at Harry and the Natives restaurant to plan and organize various church-related activities.
Current plans include helping with the annual church Thanksgiving Dinner, originated and organized by Deacon Carla Tinsley, where they are donating three turkeys, and helping set up and clean up, and helping with preparation for the Hobe Sound Christmas Parade.
See
Pastor Paul or
Bob Atkisson for further information, or to volunteer to help with the Men’s Club’s upcoming projects.
